We had some rough road conditions on the way back from a backcountry ski trip, so ended up staying at the Glacier Park Lodge. I have a lot of memories of stopping at this lodge on many a road trip, and always thought it was a bit of an odd place, with all the stuffed animals and its strange little gift shop.
Staying here did not change my perception of it being a bit of an odd place, but I walked away with a much better impression of the place.
The rooms were reasonably priced for what you got, especially given that it was the holiday season. Rooms were clean and staff were friendly, if a little run off their feet. The place is clearly run by a family and it was often the same person checking us in, serving food and beer in the lounge/restaurant, cleaning the rooms, and bussing the tables. Service was a little slow, but it wasn't for lack of effort, and it was always friendly.
Room was pretty basic with two double beds. Decor was dated but it kind of matched the quirkiness of the place. Bathroom decor was also dated but it had been well-maintained and was clean.
Lounge chairs were worn, but it worked out well for the crowd in the room, which were clearly mostly backcountry skiers. Avalanche gear and snowshoes can be rented from the hotel for $5/day, which is a pretty sweet deal if you're planning on joining a group on one of the easily accessible backcountry trails from the hotel.
Would definitely consider it as a base for future ski trips into the backcountry, when there is no need for frills.
