“The attitude of the owner was just perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2010

We liked the stay in Tete Jaune very much, the attitude of the owner (if owner was the lady in office :-) was amazing, THANK YOU AGAIN for your great support.
Originally we booked the stay using hostelbookers.com and only after arrival late in the night we realized they cheatet on us and Tete Jaune Lodge doesn't accept any bookings from them (although hostelbookers already withdraw a booking fee from my bank account!)
The lady in the office was very empathic and supportive, she offered us the stay in two rooms for the price of one, once again thank you very much! The surrounding is beautiful, the place was clean and cozy, I recommend this place to everybody.

“Beautiful location, great deal, gotta come back.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2010

The Tete Jaune lodge is a very well-kept 60's-style motor inn nestled by the river just north of Valemount. They also have a hostel in a separate building, and campsites, RV sites and teepees down by the river. Our group of 20 stayed there and everyone fell in love with this little place.

The location is great. The large property is located right next to the river where salmon spawn in late summer. In fact, they have a wonderful deck with chairs and a fireplace right next to the water. There is also a small restaurant right next to the river, which they will open for large groups.

It made a perfect stopover for our group en route from Victoria to Edmonton. If you're visiting Jasper and wanting to save a few loonies on the hotel, this place would be perfect, as its only an hour away from the heart of the park. Snowmobilers and skiiers would do well staying here in the winter, too.

The staff were great. Ailie was very patient in answering all of my questions and dealing with the logistics of bringing in the group. She also was quite informative about the history and geography of the area. And as if that weren't enough, she knew we didn't have time to stop for breakfast, so she baked our entire group muffins! (they were delicious, BTW, Ailie!)

A word about the hostel: Four members of our group stayed in the hostel and we all agreed It was great. In fact, I regret the term "hostel," because its basically a house with 6 bedrooms and two bathrooms. It felt like we had our own little house for the evening. There was a full kitchen at our disposal, with everything we needed to cook and eat. In addition, there was a big screen TV with tons of channels a PS2 downstairs.

Not that we had any desire to sit around in front of the TV. The location was incredible, in terms of natural beauty. Mountain vistas in every direction. There's a river-rafting place right next door, and I MUST come back to stay in the hostel, go rafting, and explore the area.

What else? Everything was clean. They have wi-fi. All the motel rooms have micro/fridge combos. You can pull your car right up to your door. The country location is perfect for those wanting to get away from the city--you won't find any other businesses for a several kilometers (other than the rafting place). There is a small general store in the lobby.

ONE WARNING: BRING BUG SPRAY!!! The mosquitoes are terrible in the summer. They do go away once it cools down in the evening. If you forget, they sell it in the store, but it ain't cheap!

I truly hope to come back some day when I have time to relax and enjoy this fabulous place.

“Liked Tete Jaune Lodge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2010

I was very happy with the Tete Jaune Lodge. Its run by a family and they have a number of rooms, tent camping, etc. There is a river that flows right by it and a great view of the mountains. Bring your food and picnic by the river as there are limited restaurants and you have to go 10km for them and might be crowded during the peak travel in summer.
So, I would unhestitatingly suggest you stay there. Its a good feel of Canada.

“Older accomadations, spectacular scenery”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 April 2010

I must admit I was quite disappointed when we pulled up to Tete Juane Lodge mainly because the property did not look as if it was taken care of. If you are looking for upscale accommadations this is not for you. The rooms are outdated but they are very clean and large. There was a nice quaint little restaurant sitting by the river which at the time of making my reservations I had been told it would be open by the time we got there. Apparently the cook had quit and had not been replaced so it was closed. Now on the positive side, the scenery is beautiful, there is a nice patio right on the Frazer River and I could have sat there all day just looking at the river and the mountains. I talked to several regulars and they all said the fishing was great. If going through there again I would stay there but it would not suit a lot of people

Thank-you for your review. Yes, this is an older property and we are constantly fixing and upgrading. In fact this is the 40th anniversary of the Motel (2010). The hostel was added 2 years ago and was a major renovation. The current owner has had the Lodge for 3 years and has also completely redone the restaurant and kitchen. All new linens have been purchased as well as all rooms outfitted with a bar fridge, microwave and in room coffee service as well as wireless internet on the entire property. The Riverside Cafe is always leased out and the leesee was not able to continue last year due to family issues. The Lodge does not hire 'cooks'. However a local caterer does come in to do pre-booked functions & meals for groups of 6 or more. Private dinners, luncheons, meetings, Bar-B-Q's are quite common. This information is currently posted on the web-site and was posted last year as well. As the property is over 5 acres with the 2 campgrounds it requires a lot of ground maintainence - last year unfortunatly was overwhelmingly dry - by mid July - the entire area looked like Kamloops - grass was all dryed up - and it is not looking much better this year. Normally we can harly keep up with mowing. Hopefully the weather will be kinder this year.
