I was so hestitant about going to this place after reading some of the reviews. thought i was going to be walking into a nightmare of a vacation. however i've never been so pleasantly surprised. High Falls was nothing like some of those reviews stated. the grounds were beautiful and clean. the peple running it were friendly, helpful, always greeting you with a smile and a hello. i don't know what those others were talking about but i'm so very happy i didn't listen. otherwise i would've missed out on a great vacation and finding a little piece of paradise.

“Will not return”

I stayed there last week with my mother, sister and my two children. My mother called in advance to see if there was accomodation available and to make sure the boats, kayaks, and water trampolines were available as this was the main reason we were interested in going. My mother was informed that everything was available and so she booked our stay for the next day. When we arrived it was raining. We were greeted by the owner who was friendly and accomodating at the time. We decided to stay in the shawneeki cabin #15. The owner had movies available to borrow at no cost which was great. The hot tub was really hot and the owner agreed to put some cold water in to it and to turn the falls on. We were greatful for this. The tv ended up being tempermental and only worked for a short time. We weren't too concerned about it as we had come to use the water and kayaks. We went to the water park and discovered there was many broken toys and beer bottles amongst garbage there. We understood as the long weekend had just ended two days prior. The water trampolines were destroyed. It would have been greatly appreciated it this information was given to us prior to booking. We decided to let it slide. Our cabin had a musty smell that never went away. My son started sneezing and coughing the whole night and my mother' asthma started bothering her. We were informed that there was fresh spring clean water to drink and then read on the wall of the cabin that there was a boil water advisory to which below there was a sign posted stating that there was only an advisory because the owner refused to put chlorine in the water. There is alot of repairs that need to be completed to the many cabins and grounds. We understood the new owner had just taken over the park in April and we decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. We stayed for one night. Check out time was 11:00am but we were informed that although we had to be out of the cabin, we could stay for the day and use the water park, pool, and rest of the facilities. We packed our belongings in to our vehicle and headed to the beach. When we got to the beach we were shocked to see that none of the promised kayaks or peddle boats were available. We noticed that they were all at the clothing optional water park. One of the other people staying at the resort returned with a canoe to which we borrowed. My sister, son and daughter and I set off in the canoe. As we passed the water park we noticed that all the kayaks were parked on the beach there and the beach was full of kids and adults. We paddled past the water park and noticed a kayak by itself parked on the beach around the bend. I got out of the canoe with my 2 year old and in to the kayak and started paddling away. A woman started yelling at me that I was not allowed to take the kayak. I was confused as these were promised to us with our stay. I paddled off anyways. Once I reached the beach again I was told by a young teen to take the boat back as he stated this was the owners orders. I spoke to the owner who informed me that there was a camp there using the boats. I simply asked if they needed every single boat as we were promised paddle boats and kayaks with our stay. The owner stated that there should be some for us to use. I informed him that there wasnt. The owner was busy showing new guests around at this point. The owner told me that I could use the boat and to leave it on his beach and not to go back to the water park. I went down to the beach and was informed that the teen took the boat. There was guests there on the beach who were also not pleased as they wanted to use the kayaks as well. The owner came down to the beach and we tried to speak with him about using the kayaks. The owner told us there was a camp. I informed him that we should have been informed of this camp as this was our entire reason for coming. The owner was getting angry. My mother requested a discount of the water park. The owner stated he couldnt afford to do this. My mother informed the owner that she will need to call better business and tried to reason with him to which he threw us off his property. He told us to pack our stuff and get out!! (there is other details to this experience but I think you get the picture) This is unfortunate as the falls are beautiful.

“Great Gettaway!”

July.26, 2011- My first time staying at this resort and it was a wonderful experience. We wanted to bring our bicycles to ride the trails but there was no space in my vehicle. However, to my surprise bicylces were provided on the resort so we were still able to enjoy the outdoors on wheels. We spent most of time in the water kayaking, canoeing, and paddle boating around the High Falls, three of them to be exact. Everything provided at no extra charge. We ended our stay the night before, sitting by camp fire roasting marshmellows and meeting with other cottagers. It was great, see you soon!

“Beautiful Area....but....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2011

We stayed here for one night as a stop over. The beach was nice and the boats that we could use were a nice break from just being on the shore.
We stayed in one of the chalets, It was nice, clean and there were fresh towels. The kitchen was nice too, but noticed that the dishes were not all very clean. The room was a bit on the high side at 254.00 incl taxes for one night. We were dissapointed that there was no coffee in the morning as promised, and as city dewellers we rely on it, we made the the 10 min drive into town for TIM's. I know the area well beacuse my grandparents live in baysville so we did not travel too much.
The resort need a lot of work, there are a few building that need to be taken care of and the area with all the toys could be cleaned up a bit.
We did not use the pool or hot tub, we swam in the lake( and I have a thing about not getting into hot tubs that are not mine or as family members...lol)
The owner was very nice showing us around the place and set us up for a nice stay, when we left he asked us if we had a good ime and hoped that he would see us again, he might,
all in all not bad but expensive! I could have stayed at a 4-5 star hotel for that price a night and had coffee at my door as promised.

“Gorgeous area, but accommodations were sub-par at best.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2011

This was a beautiful area, and I think it does have potential IF lots of work is put into this place. From a nature perspective, we have absolutely no regrets. The falls are absolutely gorgeous, and the hidden falls inside the trails is a nice little gem. The beach, while a little untidy (overflowing garbage bin, cigarette butts on the sand for days, etc) is still enjoyable and the pedal boats, while a little grimy, were fun. The outdoor pool/deck were nice, and the hot tub was ok. The room was the big problem. When we walked in to our Coach room it was a step back into time, and not in a good way. There was old milk in the fridge. Someone else's sock, hat and water bottle was under the bed. The beds and carpet were very old, and the room itself had a musty odor that never went away despite us having windows open. There was a stain on a bedsheet and I truly believe it was not changed from previous guests. On the website it advertises that they are "immaculately kept"... nothing could be further from the truth. We did not get fresh towels/coffee/soap daily. We did not even get housekeeping at all. We returned after a fun-filled day to discover the beds had not been made, garbage bins not emptied, the room was not vacuumed -- it was completely untouched. Another guests said he had asked about housekeeping and the owner told him where he could find the large bins to empty his garbage into!
In short, while I loved the location and the falls, the accommodations are as such that we cannot return. If you truly do not care about where you sleep -- if you are ok with roughing it (similar to sleeping in tents), and enjoying kayaks, pedal boats, hiking etc during the day -- you may love this place. I also will admit I cannot make comments on the luxury chalets as I did not see inside them. I do know that others in the Coach rooms were not pleased. I actually do not care that the interior was dated, but I do care that it was not clean. I wish I could give this a higher review, because the beach is very accessible and the area is truly beautiful.

Room Tip: Ask to see inside the rooms before you make a commitment. There are no refunds.
