I was attending the GNE in Collingwood as a vendor and needed a cheap hotel room to stay 2 nights in. This motel was cheap, the room was outdated, run down and smelled but clean in appearance. There was no phone and only two small towels and a face clothe in the room. The door had only a button lock on the door knob and the trim was broken from what was obviously a forceful past entry. Being exhausted from a long day I just wanted a hot bath and a warm bed. I turned up the heater as the room was surprisingly cold. The tub had no plug but a face clothe did the job. As I was bathing my co-worker and friend arrived and reported to me that he caught a strange man lurking around my bathroom window listening to me bathe and talk on my cell phone. (A friend of the owner and apparent resident of the motel). Later as the night went on I found myself waking up freezing. I realized the heat wasnt working in the room. The next morning on my way out I reported the problem to the front desk, telling them I wouldnt stay another night without heat. They assured me the room would be warm and with a heater in it when I came back that night. That evening when we returned we found there was no heater and the room was cold. When my friend complained they gave us a broken heater. When we returned it they denied any agreement about heating the room. I told them if they were not going to give me a heater I was checking out. They said go ahead and leave because they were not going to give us any heat. When we asked for a refund for that night they refused to give it to us. When we argued the manage grew very angry and actually began approching me in a threatening manner. His wife stepping in front of him and stopping him. Then they called the police and falsely accused my friend of physically pushing the manager/owner at the desk saying they had a witness (guess who, ya, buddy who was lurking around the bathroom window when I was alone in my room). It seemed almost preplanned and rehearsed. While leaving I called the police department and told them what really happened. They dropped the case wishing me luck as they agreed with me. I also called my credit card company and later the better business burea (Not surprised that this motel already had a D- rating) both are still investigating. These people seem to think they can take anyones money by playing these games and scamming them. Lying to the customers and the police is way too easy for them if it serves there purpose of getting your money and getting you to leave. Someone should shut them down. I recommend staying away from this place unless you take an undercover camera in with you and then expose them and there scam on the news.
