“Incompetent management”

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. We booked and full paid for the hotel in advance through a travel website. Reservation and full payment was confirmed by the hotel upon check in. Two days after leaving, I found my credit card charged again for the full amount by the hotel (they had my card info from check in for any additional costs/ damages incurred during my stay--there weren't any.) I was so upset! Whoever charged my credit card didn't even look at my file to see that it was already paid in full. To make matters worse, I had to call and speak to different people 4 times regarding this matter. And I did not get any e-mails/ returned calls as promised by the hotel. For something that was their mistake, they should have been fully responsible to rectify it. Not have me do it. And furthermore, there was no compensation offered for the trouble they caused. Also, the floor were were on was very noisy--kids running in the halls and banging on the room door at all hours of the night. We will not be returning. And we will tell our friends and family that also make frequent trips to Huntsville to steer clear as well.

I won't be going back there.

“Going the extra mile”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

My wife and I spent two days in October at Hidden Valley and enjoyed ourselves tremendously. A few hicups at checking-in but overall the staff at the bar made sure that the girl at the front counter realized that these things should be taken care of right away.
The bartender went that extra mile for us. Seems the cleaning staff got the wrong room number to prepare from the front desk and she had to rush to get the right room ready.
When we did get into our room, the wait was worth it and the 3rd floor balcony had a great view. The food at the restaurant was delicious along with the portions and the staff made us feel at home. Will definitely return next year.

Room Tip: Ask for 3 rd floor lakeview, the extra $ is worth it.

“A very pleasant , enjoyable experience”

We took advantage of a jaunt offer, stayed there two days over halloween, and had nothing but treats. A bottle of masi wine, free breakfast were bonuses. The view from the room was spectacular. The staff was uber friendly and helpful. Not many people there made us feel like we were at home in a new home. The crowning touch was when the front desk person told us we could bring our wine down to dinner in the restaurant. We didnt but what a nice gesture. Our server was the same girl over the two days, so pleasant and friendly. No complaints about anything, no tricks, just treats! We will definitely return to try it out in the summer.

“Run down, not worth the money”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

We stayed in a family room, the room was big but old and run down. There were different kinds of paint used all over the room. The bathroom was small and the toilet leaked. The show had very low pressure and we could not get very much hot water. For our room there was NO balcony which is sad considering it was one of the more expensive rooms in the hotel. The pool was cloudy and was full of algy, we decided not to swim in it after noticing it was cloudy. On a good note the food was fairly good and the drinks were mixed fairly well. All and all I would not recommend this hotel with deerhurst being right across the lake.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a balcony over looking the lake.

“Listen to me... Please DO NOT book this place from their website...and please avoid to stay in this place if possible..”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2011

I booked two rooms (1 Queen Hillside) on Sep 20, 2011 from Hidden Valley Resort homepage which links to their booking agent/system called "Magnuson Hotels" and I have obtained two confirmed confirmation numbers.

When I checked in last night (Oct 8, 2011) I only got one room, because "Magnuson Hotels" only sent them one reservation. The front desk lady (she was extremely unfriendly and not professional at all) said that I have to complaint to "Magnuson Hotels", and at the same time she can't give me any room or do anything about it. She even told me that next time if I booked on line, I have to call them to confirm my reservation... (I have been traveled to many countries and booked hundreds hotels on line, and this is the first time I ever heard that even I obtained a confirmation on line and I still have to call "the hotel" to confirm my reservation).
We have to stuck with one queen bed with four big guys...(I was glad that one room we got came with a sofa bed)...

Next morning when we checked out, we requested the hotel to provide us a confirmation that "Magnuson Hotels" sent them... I want to get a back up in case "Magnuson Hotels" charges me with two rooms. The front desk told me that "Magnuson Hotels" is not a third party agent.. it's their own system for clients to make reservation on line..... (Now they claimed that "Magnuson Hotels" is their own system, and why the lady from last night was telling us to complaint to "Magnuson Hotels" and they should be the one responsible for the mistake.

Also right after I made a reservation on Sep 20, 2011, Hidden Valley reservation team (Julieanne) sent me an e-mail and asking me if I am part of "Fall Leaves Viewing" group which has blocked some rooms for the people in this group. I have replied to her that I booked "two" rooms from their website, and I am not part of this group. She never got back to me again, and I thought everything is fine...

Despite Hidden Valley Resort ran out the rooms or whatsoever reason, they should try to help the clients with better solution and not just kicked all problems back to the clients and let them suffer. In this real case, the lady who checked us in also blaming the clients not calling them to confirm the reservation despite the clients already obtained two official confirmation numbers on line and provided zero helps.. She even meant to say to the clients "you are lucky we even didn't charge you two extra for additional people staying in the room".....

I have been to this resort few times, and even recommended it to everyone I know...... I guess this is it.... they just blew it right in front of my face....and my friends.

Take your own risk if you decide to book this hotel on line (or please call them to confirm if you have already booked your hotel), and I found there are many nicer places to stay around Huntsville... so enjoy your trip to Muskoka... :) If you are having meals inside Huntsville, you have to try Louis's II Restaurant and Tavern on 24 Main Street E, Huntsville... both food and customer services are excellent.... :)

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on Trip Advisor. It is important that members share information about their travel experiences and I am happy that you shared yours. It upsets me that your experience was not a positive one! My front desk and reservations team failed you. We may have indeed only received one reservation from Magnuson Hotels. That is a real possibility however how you were treated and the solution to this was not acceptable. I am not going to make any excuses other then to say there were some mistakes made and for that I am sorry.
With your permission I would like to contact you direclty to discuss this situation.
Thank-you again,
Scott
