“Poor Layout - Noisy - Not worht the Price”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2010

I have stayed at this hotel on two occasions. I initially was asked to go through the pool area to get to my room, I was then sent to a really small room. I complained because of the noise so I was moved to another room. At about 3 a.m. I awoke from the noise from t he room directly above me. It was not like a hotel ( with noise proof or concrete floors) between the levels, it was like wood floors creaking. The decor is outdated and a indescribable smell permeated the halls and the room itself - possible they need to replace the carpets? As a result, I will not be staying at this hotel, I continue to travel to beautiful Kenora for business but will ask that another hotel be booked for me in the future.

“Our first..and last stay at this hotel.”

We traveled to Kenora to attend a local car enthusiasts weekend event. Although another hotel was recommended by the 'hosts', we decided to stay at the Travelodge as I frequent another one quite often for business, therefore had accumulated points that could go towards our room. I was a little taken back at the look of the place upon arrival but decided 'not to judge a book by its cover'.

Check in went fine. Parking was another matter. Very odd set up with there being two buildings to the hotel and the main parking was behind the second building and very cramped.

It wasn’t until late in the evening, after returning from our event, that things started to go wrong. As we prepared to settle in for the night, I noticed the bathroom sink was quite slow draining and every time you flushed the toilet, the tub drain made loud gurgling noises which seemed odd so I made a mental note to mention it to the front desk in the morning. We found the room to be quite warm so thought it best to put the air conditioner on for the night. Had I known we were going to need ear plugs to do so, I would have brought some! Although the noise from it was unbearable, so was the humidity which left us with little choice but to put up with it. It was obvious this was not a recent problem as I found a wrapped candy jammed into the slots, obviously from another frustrated guest trying to stop the vibration noise! If that wasn’t bad enough, the pillows on the bed and in the closet were no help. Flat, with compressed lumps of whatever, is the best way to describe them.

After a restless night, I got up in the morning to take a shower. Another event in itself. The water temperature changed so many times I lost count. I experienced warm water, freezing cold water and scalding water numerous times all within the one attempt and with little to no warning it was going to change. Upon finishing my shower, my husband greeted me with more news – although we had coffee, creamers etc., we had no coffee cups!
Already running late, we gave up and left the motel, hoping we could find time later to come back and speak to someone at the desk. Unfortunately, we did not return until late that evening and had to endure another night listening to the air conditioner and sleeping with flat, lumpy pillows.

Upon check out the next morning, I waited to see if the desk clerk was going to ask us how our stay was. She did not, but nor did I say anything to her at that time. I had already decided I would make sure a written complaint was sent. Upon returning home, I sent an email the hotel directly, outlining our concerns. I did receive a 'READ' receipt which means they did read it but there was no response from them whatsoever.

I will make a point of letting the organizers for next years event know, so they do not recommend this hotel to anyone attending.

“Not Sound-proof”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2010

When we first entered the hallway from outside we were struck by the strong stench of urine. Going into our room was not much better. My husband went to the desk to complain where they apologized and gave him some air freshener, which did help a little. Housekeeping then cleaned the hallway to where it was not so offensive to breathe. The room was large, and adequate for our stay, but the internal hotel noise was troublesome. We could hear the person in the room above us snoring, and he/she was up at 4:30 every morning walking around his room. The footsteps and squeaky floors were so loud we could not sleep. Children playing in another room, and hallways, was very loud as well. During the day was no problem, but it was extremely hard to sleep with thin walls and ceiling. Housekeeping needed attention as the room had numerous "dirty" spots, even a brown substance on the bathroom floor the first day. The chairs were sticky, food spillage was still in the fridge and last patron items left in drawers. The price was good, but we feel the hotel could do with some improvements.

“Consistently Average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2010

This is your average hotel. The rooms are old but reasonably clean. It is close to many fast food joints and the hotel restaurant is your typical family feedbag (Yesterday's I think its called). It is quiet which is great . I come to Kenora often for business and have been staying here for the last several trips - much better than the rowdy locals at the days inn. Price is competitive.

“REALLY needs updating”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2009

We stayed here for a night while driving through Canada. This hotel is poorly situated on the main road, with pretty dismal scenery. The rooms smelled really bad, and there were ashes on our windowsill from where people put out cigarettes. We had two queen beds and the room had a refrigerator, TV, and small table and chairs. The carpet and drapes needed to be cleaned desperately. The bathroom was okay, but not spotless. It was stifling hot and so we put the A/C on. Very noisy. It was not an option to open the window, because the screen was broken and bugs would come in. The pool was outside of our window and looked okay, but we didn't swim in it. No breakfast included, and the only eating options we could find nearby was KFC, McDonald's and A&W. Definitely not recommended.
