“Bring your hiking boots!”

We were travelling as a group and this was one of the few hotels that still had enough rooms available for all of us. The hotel is well located, easy access to the expressways to take you around the KW area.

Since this was a group booking, we were given rooms on the first 2 floors (not in the "business tower" nor in the Priority Club area, despite being a PC member). This part of the hotel has no elevators and the rooms are located within two very long corridors. If you are staying in that part of the hotel, I advise not unloading your car before check-in. There are 2 access doors for that part of the hotel that you can use once you get your keycard.

The rooms were clean but had a bit of a double personality; the beds (comfortable) and furniture were updated, the bathroom was dated (but clean). Our room did not have a thermostat, so temperature control was hit or miss with the hot/cold dial. I also didn't find a way to adjust the fan, so it was on all night (and moderately noisy).

Breakfast in the hotel restaurant was typical hot buffet fare; eggs, sausages, bacon, waffles, potatoes, and a variety of baked goods, cereals and fruit. PC members get a discount on meals, and with children under 12 being free, this ended up being a good option. Our group of 30 ate supper at the same restaurant, and I was impressed by the staff who managed to feed us in a timely manner, despite us not having a reservation, and 3 other functions happening at the same time.

The only complaint I have is the lack of bar fridge in the room. It would be nice to be able to store restaurant leftovers for when the kids get hungry late at night.

Room Tip: Don't unload your car until you know where your room is. If you're in the main part of the h...

“Overall Wonderful Stay”

I had come in to Kitchener for a meeting at the hotel, and stayed a few nights because of it. The rooms were wonderful. The bathroom was a bit small, but I don't need a lot of room when I travel by myself. I was on the main level, and had access to my vehicle from the sliding doors to the room. The Front Desk staff were always friendly, and were able to answer all my crazy questions for me. I did experience problems with the Internet connection, and was unable to connect all night. The desk did direct me to the 800 number help desk, but the phone connection was horrible. I was brought a signal booster with a hardline, but still wasn't able to get online.

A nice touch as a Priority Club member was the welcome fruit and cheese tray.

“Overpriced for a Kitchener Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

Hotel was okay but the bar closed at 11:00 pm on a Friday night. Room was decent but toilet was broken even after it was "fixed".

“Stay off first Floor!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

It's funny as i swear i had come before here and didn't notice the age of the hotel. It's like a 10 story addition was added to a dated 2 floor. The price is pricey for a Holiday Inn if you dont have a discount carrier, my advice get one. Anyway i am a Gold Card and CPSA member and that got me free breakfast (cold) and 10.00 off at the restaurant, so i was happy with that. The Hot tub is nice because it's huge, and the pool and the weight room is decent.
When i checked in the hotel employee checked me in on the first floor, well i never want the first floor anywhere for a slew of problems. I asked to be moved somewhere else and he said the hotel was booked solid. I find that hard to believe that no other rooms were available, and being a Gold Card member would have me switch a room before someone that wasn't checked in. So here i sit in a danky, dark, and outdated room on the first floor. The bathroom is tiny and you have to run the AC/Heat all night to drown out hall and hi-way noise.
The hotel was loaded with parents and thier hockey kids which i have no issues about, it's letting them run up and down the hall and even play hockey in the hall that i do! It doesn;t mean that you can take a night off from parenting :)
House keeping wants to clean your room at 9:30 AM when check out is 12:00PM?? Good luck on sleeping in.
Oh and the off chance you do get a higher floor there is only one very narrow elevator, thank goodness you can use them in a fire.
Finally i am no tech wizard but i dont think 9mbps is a fast internet but i could be wrong.

Room Tip: Stay off first and second floor especially in older part of hotel

“Poor Service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

Recently stayed here for Oktoberfest and found that the hotel lobby, rooms etc were very clean and well maintained and we had no problems with that, however when asked if the breakfast in the hotel restaurant was free we were told, yes all the bread products (basically continental breakfast) was free for guests but that there was a fee of $15.95 for the hot breakfast. Myself and the rest of our party (of 9 people) decided to take advantage of the free continental breakfast. Upon finishing our breakfast we were brought bills. We complained and the manager spoke to us and insisted that we each pay $11.95 as the breakfast was not free, even though it was a mistake on the hotels part when the person working the front desk informed us that it was in fact free. I would NOT go back here for the simple reason that we were treated quite poorly as paying customers of 150 dollars per night I would expect better service (and a free continental breakfast! Who wants to pay 11.95 for a bagel and a glass of juice!?).
