“Face lift required!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

As far as we could tell the Lodges at Canmore only had 2 things going for it: friendly staff and it's pet friendly. However, neither of those would be enough to make us go back.

The unit we stayed in looked nothing like the pictures on the website! False advertising!!!! How about a small, hot, dirty, dated one bedroom unit? Seriously, since when does one double bed pass as acceptable anymore? How about splashing out on a flat screen? But befoer you do that, how about some new paint, appliances, bedding and furniture? seriously not impressed. What a massive disappointment.

Room Tip: Dunno...would like to hope there are some nicer than what we stayed in....according to the photos on...

Hi Kanzi75,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on TripAdvisor. I am glad you appreciated the pet friendly suites and the friendliness of our staff. We are currently in the process of a major upgrade program in the suites, which will include new furnishings and flat screen TV's.

Kind Regards,

-Adrian

“A Great Stay Despite the Lukewarm Hot Tub!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

We had a great stay at Elkhorn at the Lodges. The rooms were very clean and the kitchen stocked with most pots/pans/plates/etc. you would need for cooking. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The dvd collection you can borrow from was a plus, even though the televisions in our room were a bit circa 1995. (Come on Lodges, you can do an upgrade! ) We also appreciated the heated underground parking!

The one thing we were really looking forward to but that turned out to be a disappointment was the hot tub. We were in Canmore to ski at the Big 3. After a long day of skiing we really enjoy unwinding in the hot tub. However, the hot tub at the Elkhorn was temp'd very low -- way too low for the December chill! In addition, the hot tub is located in a not-so-great area: right in front of the lobby next to the road. In my opinion, you're better off driving to the hot springs at Banff and paying the $7 entrance fee.

“Enjoyed our Stay”

My wife and I stayed at the Lodges in November. We booked a 1 bedroom suite and have no problems with the room itself, the facilities were excellent, the room was very comfortable and the view was superb. Because it was November we couldn't make use of the balcony area nd the barbeque which would have given us a lot more space.
The only problem we had was noise related, which was rather surprising as the Condo was not that busy at that time of year. Basically, when the occupants above us were moving about, it sounded like a herd of elephants and when flushing the toilet, it sounded as if we had our own private waterfall. It is a fact of life in Condos that you must accept some noise but I feel these are constructional issues and not a result of noisy neighbours per se. Although we had an amazing view from the apartment, we did face the railroad tracks and in the middle of the night, you do know all about it when a train goes through.

“Nor worth the money”

Long story short
Booked a King .....got a queen
Booked a one bedroom.....got a loft
Booked a ground floor unit.......got 3rd floor unit

The staff was very nice, he explained that the units are owned and in a rental pool....you might get a room where for owners furish it nice or one that they buy everything at garages sales....we got garage sale stuff......but you pay the same. Not for me....there is way to many choices out there.

Dear Mr Williams,

Thank you for taking the time to review our property on TripAdvisor. We endeavour to meet guests specific requests for bed configuration, floor level etc, but we do not guarantee a specific suite as allocation can be adjusted based on availability, at the time of check-in. We are currently in the process of updating the original part of the property to harmonise the standards across all our suites.

Kind regards

Adrian

“Expected a little more”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

Stayed for 3 nights Nov 10-12. I'll start by saying the view is FANTASTIC but that's the only instance I'll be using that word from this point onwards.

Despite words like "lodges" and "lofts" used in the hotel descriptions the correct words would be "90's style" and "condo". The lay out of the loft suite we'd booked was awkward for lack of a better word. We were expecting lodging that mirrored the image this hotel was trying to convey; instead it felt like we were bumming someones timeshare.

The halls we're somewhat dirty and every person that walked by could be heard rather easily.

There's no maid service unless you have a special request for it and the wireless internet was spotty.

We lost power to the top bathroom on the second night and had to use the bottom one for the remainder of our stay.

That said, for the price you'd pay at other lodging the Lodges at Canmore were a good value. The front desk was helpful and the pool looked nice.

Next time we book a weekend away in the rockies I'll be searching elsewhere.

Hi Adam,

Thank you for taking the time to review our property on TripAdvisor. We are currently refurbishing our corridors in the original phase, by painting, replacing carpets and installing new artwork. We work with our suite owners to ensure the suites are up to date and will use your feedback to help ensure all the units meet or exceed our customers’ expectations. We do provide a full turn housekeeping service every fourth day of stay. I am happy to say our engineers have since corrected the internet issue. I am glad you found your stay represented good value, that you found our staff friendly and the outdoor pool and hot-tub attractive.

Kind regards,

Adrian,
Guest Services Manager.
