Our first mistake was driving up to the A-1 Motel but after 12hrs of driving and tired kids all we wanted was a clean place to stay. Most of the Hotels and Motels were full but for 84.00 dollars we thought we could get a decent nights sleep. Unfortunately it was smelly and unclean. When we walked into the room and turned on the lights all sorts of bugs came flying down. A beer can was holding a window open. The rug had stains on it and a 4 inch diameter hole was in the corner. When we took our shoes off the rug was sticky. The chair had stains and the desk had burn marks on it. When we pulled the covers back they had burn marks on them. The bed felt mushy and room lacked such modern conveniences as a phone and tv controller. After 15 mins of staying in the room we could not sleep because of the odor and conditions. Because our boys layed in the beds we were refused a refund. Facing a night in that room or our continued four hour drive to Emonton, we decided to drive home and lose our money. We recommend that if the A-1 Motel is your only option in Canmore just keep on driving.
