“We are already figuring out when we can come back next!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2011

My husband and I were taking his parents to the Rockies for the first time and were looking for a different more authentic form of accommodation - something unique and original. Old Entrance completely fills the bill. The location, just 10 minutes out of Hinton, throws you back to when the trains and tourists first graced this valley. This most beautiful setting is enhanced by the wonderful accommodations and first class service.

My 60'sh inlaws rented the White Cabin on the premises. The cabin is welcoming, squeaky clean and fitted with period furniture, wonderful kitchen and 2 futons. Everything is clean and fresh - like having your own little house. My guy and I were in the small teepee up the hill near the historic cabin. It was heaven. The cabin was warm and cozy, equipped with all the basics, plus sweet extra touches. The wood stove kept us toasty warm and was easy to use. We felt like we were camping. The teepees have access to a shower and bathroom building which, like the cabin, was exceptionally clean and fresh, right down to the aquarium themed shower curtain. The main house where breakfast is served is beautiful and full of interesting furniture and pictures. The food is fresh, tasty and plentiful and your hosts are very attentive throughout. The flowers throughout the site, even by the teepees is another wonderful touch.

If you are looking for an authentic, off the beaten track holiday - this is the place. Your hosts are happy friendly people with great stories of the area and wonderful ambassador pets. If you think you want a Howard Johnson in the woods - go somewhere else as they are plentiful. This place, however, could be one of the best in the country and is in a class by itself. Can't wait to go back again and try the Ridge cottage next!

Room Tip: If you want seclusion and roughing it, take the small teepee!

“Charming retreat!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2011

We spent 5 days at Old Entrance and enjoyed it thouroughly. Having stayed in Jasper several times, we thought we'd try a B & B further out as we wanted the solitude and quiet surroundings. The cabins are spread out nicely on this site, and the views are very beautiful, as the mountains provide the backdrop to the forest across the Athabasca river. I loved sitting on the porch listening to the leaves and also, reading in the hammocks down by the river with the sound of flowing water and light breezes blowing. Our hosts were delightful. The breakfasts were great, and the horseback riding was wonderful. I went twice in the 5 days that we spent at Old Entance, and enjoyed the experience each time. The views of the forested area around the property are spectacular, many wildflowers were out at this time. I have never seen so many tiger lilies in the wild! There are also several old buildings on the property; an old school house and a trapper's cabin that add to the charm of this B & B. One of the hosts, Mary, grew up in the area, and has done a great job of bringing some of the history alive through the preservation of the buildings and also, bringing the old Entrance Train Station to life. Thank you Mary and Carol!

“The very best place we could have chosen”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2011

My wife and I stayed in the Brown Cabin for five days. We needed somewhere we could relax and feel totally removed from the every day pressures of working life. I don't think there's anywhere better than Old Entrance. The cabin was really comfortable; the surroundings beautiful....and our hosts, Mary and Carol, were the nicest people we've met over the years of staying at hotels and B&Bs. They were extremely welcoming and my wife and I plan to return whenever we can. We went out on a horse ride led by Mary which opened up some beautiful countryside which otherwise we wouldn't have seen, and Mary, who's quite the historian, told us about some of the characters who'd once lived and trapped in the area. The horses were really well behaved: neither my wife nor I are particularly experienced riders, but we felt very safe. Carol, who produced some great breakfasts while we were there, also introduced us to her feathery friend, Asparagus, a green parrot who accompanies her whenever she's working outside. If you want somewhere which gives you privacy, total relaxation and beautiful scenery. I'd recommend Old Entrance for sure.

“Awesome teepee and memorable trail ride”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2011

We'd been on the road a while, and Old Entrance was our last stop. The teepee was perfect, (it was a teepee after all,,whaddya'd expect a bidet?) and sleeping that close to the athabaska was fine and dandy. The train rumbed on a few times, but we were used to that already. The breakfast Carol made was exactly what I needed, being travel weary,, rubarb and strawberry crisp, hard eggs, toast, tomatoes, cheese, juice, etc etc. Mary took us on a horseback ride that was the most scenic I've ever been on. It was my son's 11th birthday, but they accomidated even our 7 year old. We cooked our own dinners, and had possibly the best fire side dinner I've ever had (loads of ribs) The horses meandering on the grounds, goldie the dog,, (who we befriended, and left her ball on our teepee doorstep love ya , good dog!) I'd come again. Rates were incredible,, and you get more than what you pay for. The outhose is an outhose,,so don't complain,, if you wish, you can walk to the flushers. Thanks again Mary and Carol. You made an awesome end to our trip!~

“Good place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2011

I call this a pampered camping of sorts. We chose a cabin near the mountains , and not river because of the rain and weather forecast. We had also requested for bedding to be provided for us. The bedding they provided kept us warm thru the whole night despite the rains and the winds. They also provide firewood for a small fee. The teepee has candles, a small lamp, drinking water, a small desk and a stove. They also have a shower right outside .

The owners were also very helpful in giving us details about places to eat/buy stuff and helping us set up

Go for this if you think the weather isn't great for camping or you want someone to get over the mental camping barriers.
