“Best Deal in Osoyoos”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2011

Whenever we spend the night in Osoyoos, we try to stay at the Sandy Beach Motel. We always get a studio and have never been disappointed. The rooms are always impeccably clean and large. The towels are real bath towels, not those anemic white things that most places pass off as towels. The beds are very comfortable and the staff friendly. Since we are always traveling in the off season the rates are extremely reasonable. Given the choice I would not stay anywhere else.

“Awesome Place! Stay Here...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

We rolled in, a couple of dirty motorcyclists and were welcomed by the owners!

The owners gave us a full tour of the grounds and we were surprised by all the amenities such as kayaks, bins full of kids beach toys, floaties, comfy beach chairs, life jackets, tennis rackets, bbq's, books and badminton. Of course we had no children but this would be a perfect place if you did!

We walked to town every morning for breakfast. It was a lovely, leisurely 10 - 15 minute walk along the water and you are in the downtown core.

Our room was fine. It had a fully set-up kitchenette and a large deck with table and chairs to watch the sunset. We didn't use the kitchen much except a few of the wine glasses.

If you are looking for a luxury honeymoon suite or something like that then this is not it. But as far as a clean motel with fantastic water access and close to town - this place has it!!

I might add, we booked in September. The day we booked the summer prices had dropped to half the price for winter! We felt this was a very good deal! September was still wonderfully hot.

We visited a few local wineries.
All in all, a great trip! I would recommend this motel to friends.

“Rude Owners-don't stay here!”

We booked a cottage for 6 at the Sandy Beach Motel for a ladies birthday/wine tour weekend for September 17-19. When we arrived, excited to be there, we were greeted with the owners (husband and wife) who stated they gave our cottage away to another group who were there for a golf tournament. A little puzzled, we asked why and she said she upgraded us to an ocean view room in the motel that slept 5. There were 6 of us girls (in our thirties) and the woman told us she didn't have room for 6 of us to stay there and she would only have room for 5. We continued to tell her we had 6 girls, not 5 and that we had booked this cottage back in June. She stated she would never allow 6 people to one cottage since they had just renovated and got rid of the futons (back in July after we had booked!) that originally would have slept 6 comfortably but now there were only cots so it slept 5. We were polite but annoyed of the situation; we were trying our best to be able to have our sixth friend stay with us at the motel but now she decided she would no longer accommodate us. She kept stating there was a golf tournament with elderly people staying at the motel and that the Coast Inn would "maybe" have room for "our type" of group. We asked her to call the Coast Motel for us and she acted like we were inconveniencing her! The coast Motel was an extra $100 per night, not exactly our budget but now we had no choice. Once we secured a place there, she never once apologized, she continued to tell us we were not the type that belonged there and that our friends were out of control! She told us she had the right to refuse our service and that we smelled like cigarette smoke (there are no, no smoking signs and they even have a designated area on their property to smoke!) She was rude, disrespectful and plain uninviting. I have never been treated so rudely; was not a nice way to start our vacation. I would never recommend a group under 60 (or that enjoys wine in wine country!) to stay here. The worst motel experience of my life!! However our stay in a 2 bedroom suite at the coast motel was worth the extra $100 a night and we had an amazing ladies weekend after all.

“Disappointing and we would never go back!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2011

We have previously stayed at the Sandy Beach approximately 4 years ago and had a very pleasant experience. As mentioned in most of the reviews the location is wonderful and the hotel itself is quaint, clean and well maintained. We visit the Osoyoos area frequently and were back in September to enjoy a wine tasting weekend with our close friends. We chose to stay at the Sandy Beach because we had a great experience before and were familiar with the layout of the hotel and what it has to offer.
Since we had last stayed at the hotel we discovered that there were new owners and the place had even improved more since our last stay. Unfortunately the new owners were less than welcoming and ruined our stay. Keeping in mind the group we travel with are between the ages of 40-55. We are all professionals and very respectful of others property, treating it with the same care we would our own homes. The second evening we were there, Sherry (one of the owners), inspected the barbeque which we had used to prepare our dinners (which we ensured were left clean after using), and approached our group. To our disappointment Sherry took it upon herself to accuse our group of being loud -having music on after 11:00pm, urinating in the bushes and being very intimidating to other guests the previous evening. We were shocked when we were confronted with this information since we had seen Sherry that morning and she never had mentioned a thing to us! She said that the music was on until 11:02pm and there had been at least four complaints from guests. When we enquired further about this Sherry wouldn't discuss things and had the nerve to say that she did not insinuate that we were the guests who had urinated in the bushes, when in fact she did exactly that! She refused to tell us what was an acceptable level to play our music at and chose instead to walk away. We couldn't believe that other guests had found us intimidating, as we are all friendly people and very approachable. Later the same evening, we retreated to our picnic tables betweeen our cottages to sit out, enjoy some fine wine and our friends company. The cottages we stayed in are at the back of the motel and away from the main area. When sitting between the cottages there is a buffer with the walls on each side. We did have the music on but at an acceptable level, as one of us had just gone out to the middle of the courtyard to ensure it was not too loud. It was around 11:30pm. Once again we were approached-this time by Sherry's husband. He greeted us with "What part of quiet don't you understand"? We couldn't believe our ears!! At that point we had had enough and questioned him on the level of noise and how rude they both were being. He left shortly after leaving us all in disbelief. We felt that the owners were being very unreasonable. For this reason we would not return to the Sandy Beach and would recommend to all of our friends (who frequently visit Osoyoos) to NOT stay at this resort. The owners need to take some lessons on hospitality.

“One of the best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2011

We stayed at Sandy Beach for 2 nights on our tour of BC. We found our room very spacious, light, and extremely well equipped with quality fixtures and fittings. The view over the lake is quite spectacular. The motel is in a quiet location with excellent lake frontage. We highly recommend this motel and would have loved to have stayed there longer - trying more local wines!
