Came to the Holiday Inn hotel and suites Feb/2012 for a conference being held at the BMO Centre. Had the option to stay there, or "upgrade" to a King Suite at the Holiday Inn.
The suite we received at the rate of 159$/night was not at all what we expected.
Our room was incredibly outdated. The furnishings were old, broken, rundown. The carpet in the suite was riddled with old cigarette burns. There was only one hanging rack for coats, no closet in bedroom. The tv was an old tube television and 3 out of 5 lamps in the suite didn't work. The bathroom had a lot of mould in the chipped bathtub. The bedroom carpeting was so dirty around the perimeter of the room that there was a visible 4" wide dust line of where the vacuum hadn't touched. Chairs had visible tears. Bed was very uncomfortable. Sofa was a very hard loveseat that was uncomfortable to sit on.
This hotel has a prior history of bedbugs and I found it surprising that the room didn't have a valet for suitcases to sit on. We had to place our luggage up on the small table that was in our room.
The explanation was that many of the rooms and suites in the hotel had undergone renovations, but ours had not. Why we were charged at the same rate for a 2 star room, for the four and a half star suite that others received was frustrating.
The room itself was loud due to hallway noise.
My husband stayed the first two nights and after that, when I arrived, I asked for a refund for our room as we made the decision to leave the hotel entirely.
The food in the restaurant (burger and french fries) was appalling.
The staff however, were quite nice and did what they could to resolve our issue. We were offered another room in the hotel on the 3rd night, but already made a reservation at another 4 star hotel that we were able to secure at a rate significantly less than what the Holiday Inn was charging us.
