I recently stayed here for 5 nights on business.
Check in was smooth and easy if the staff were a little impersonal and "to the point", I didn't feel very welcomed as I walked to my room.
I had a corner suite on the 10th floor, my first impressions were tainted by a door frame that had seen better days, it was in much need of decoration as was the door itself. The room on entering was freezing cold, the AC had been left turned up which again was not very welcoming as I had to sit with my coat on for a good 45 minutes before it was warm enough to remove it.
The suite was reasonably well appointed but there was too much furniture in it, silly things like occasional tables that were placed where one would walk through, some more thought was needed as to the layout of this suite.
Once the room(s) had warmed up though I soon got used to the layout and began to feel more comfortable.
I was very disappointed by the lack of an executive club here, there are signs for one on the 10th floor but is has been closed down for some reason.
The staff in the bar, Troy, Angela and a lovely Slovakian lady were great, very warm and happy to chat when they had time, the bar was clean and tidy and the food reasonable too.
I think that as the hotel is part of a conference centre and spa which dominate the site dictates the attitude of the staff, this is more of a delegate hotel than a "warm and friendly" one, I certainly got the impression that I was a number not a guest.
Breakfast was a farce. On checking in I was handed 5 vouchers, one for each morning of my stay to hand in to the breakfast servers. I did not like this approach it made me feel as though I was on free school dinners! maybe this can be looked into and somehow link the guests having breakfast included into a computer to stop this ridiculous farce. As a result I only took breakfast twice during my stay as this unsettled me. I did speak to the reception staff about it but was given very short shrift - "thats how we do it here" - well it's certainly not what I am used to, especially from the Hilton brand!
Next time I am in Canada (Toronto) I will be using the Hilton downtown again (see my review) it was much better than this one at Markham.
In summary, great for conferences and their delegates but not for single business travellers and certainly not for families.
