“Four day stay Sept. 2011”
We selected this hotel for its convenience and pricing for a four day stay prior to joining our cruise ship on 24 September, 2011. We originally intended to spend two nights but we opted to arrive earlier due to a threatened Air Canada strike.
We arrived at Vancouver airport at about 9:00 AM and called the hotel for a shuttle pick up. Although I had been told prior to the trip that the shuttle operated on an as called basis when I called I was told that the shuttle would not arrive until 10:10. I was also informed that we were very early. Posted check-in is 3:00PM. The shuttle arrived on time and after a short drive we were greeted by Mr. Vijaay Kanna the day manager. He efficiently handled our check-in (a room was available) but unfortunately it was on the noisy street side of the hotel. We were required to pay for the full stay on check-in. Requests for additional minor items were handled promptly and efficiently by Suki, the do everything man.
The room was a king size non-smoking one on the third floor. A mini fridge, coffee machine, iron and board are included. Although there is no in room safe there are safety deposit boxes available at the office at no charge. The room, although basic was comfortable. The HVAC system seems to be very new. Although a through the wall style it is almost noiseless. The room and corridor carpets could use a cleaning. After our first night, Maru, our housekeeper, noticing a bottle of wine, left us two proper wine glasses. Knowing we were staying several days she also gave us a larger than normal issue of all supplies. On our second morning we went to breakfast about 8:00AM. On return at 8:45 our room was made up. What a treat as it was a rainy day and we were likely to be room bound for a while. A nice feature of the hotel is that actual glassware and china is available in the rooms and at breakfast.
The hotel is conveniently located to numerous restaurants, pubs, a large mall and three blocks from the Canada line subway which will take us directly to the port. We ate at Harold’s, in the nearby Sheraton and the Foggy Dew diagonally across the street and enjoyed ourselves at both. On our last day we walked out the back door and into Minoru Park. What an extraordinary place! Walking paths, gorgeous flower beds including a waterfall, ponds, ducks, squirrels, truly a gem.
Overall a good stay in a moderately priced hotel. Great, friendly staff in a very convenient location.
Room Tip: Ask for an upper floor in the rear overlooking the park.
