We chose this hotel as it was recommended in the Michelin guide we had been using for Turkey. The location is superb with the bazar on one side and the main Ataturk street on the other side.
We called to check availability and price, we were told 100TL for a double room for one night, which we accepted as we had been driving all day and were a bit tired. We arrived and got our room, which was OK: one double bed, one single bed, window to the street (but very quiet). Bathroom was clean but there were awful neon lights in the room. All in all quite dated. It also looked like the hotel was all empty.
We had early breakfast all alone and when checking out we wanted to pay by credit card as we were short on Turkish lira, this they did not accept even if there was a credit card PIN reader on the desk, we were told this was only for companies (go figure). We asked if we could pay in Euros but this they didn't accept either, so we were forced to go to an ATM and withdraw the necessary TL's (we were flying back in the afternoon, so we didn't want excess TL's). When giving the lady at the desk the 100TL (as agreed, no problem here) she just dropped them in a drawer and went on with her business. Now I was getting a bit angry so I asked for a receipt, when writing it she had no idea of the room fare and the taxes, I'd expect them to know the tax part if 100TL was the standard rate for a double room for one night.
All in all, we were not tricked as others have mentioned on this page, but I didn't quite like the way they treated us and I believe they weren't being completely honest with us.
