“exactly what you pay for”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

The accommodations are exactly what you pay for - clean and centrally located, but not luxurious. The living room furniture is uncomfortable, the bedsheets are very thin, and the shower floods. However, if you need the extra space or en suite laundry facilities and you don't want to pay a lot, this place will suffice. We stayed here one night as we transited to Sydney. It gave us a place to do laundry, a clean and reasonably comfortable place to sleep, and it was close to the harbor/Queen Street. It's also across the street from a number of strip clubs, so if the dodgy neighbors bother you, I'd try someplace else.

Dear NK,

Thank you for review, I am glad the property was to your liking.

We are in Central Auckland and therefore offer guests the comfort of being in the heart of the city.

Please note that we have a very safe property that is enjoyed by many.

Kind Regards

“Beware the roadworks”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We had booked to stay in The Bianco off Queen, where we had stayed previously, but due to a mix up we were transfered to the Harbour Oaks. We had a 2 bedroom appartment on the 22nd floor with views across the harbour and of the Skytower - spectacular at night all lit up. We booked for 5 people which in the Bianco meant a sofa bed in the lounge, Harbour Oaks provides a fold out camp bed, this took up rather a lot of space in the lounge area and was a bit of a nuisance to put up each night. The lounge seemed smaller than the Bianco but this may have been due to the balcony space - you could not put a chair on the balcony to enjoy the view and the balconies were not usable space - a shame with those views. The kitchen was fine, fridge freezer, oven, dishwaher and enough storage space. The bathroom was a reasonable size with plenty of storage and a powerful shower. The washer and dryer were in the bathroom. A major problem for us was the roadworks, very noisy right through the night. It also meant that to access the hotels car park you had to drive the wrong way down a one way street - not ideal. The hotel is well situated if you want to be close to the harbour and there are plenty of restaurants and bars within a 10 minute walk - a word of caution, there is also a brothel right opposite the main entrance and the girls stand on the pavement scantily clad to attract business, this didn't bother us (my teenage sons were fascinated!) but it may upset some. The appartment was clean and the price was good. The staff were helpful and polite. Overall I prefered the Bianco, but this was a good second choice.

Dear CareMC

Thank you for your review, as with an earlier review: Auckland City Council is in the process of upgrading the surrounds in Down Town Auckland and this will be a great addition to the city.

Kind Regards

“Kind-of OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

When we stayed here all the roads around were blocked off by fences/very noisy roadworks - the whole roads were being dug up. The location is a quick walk to central Auckland and the Harbour so is good in that regard - but is also opposite many strip clubs - walking home around 8.30pm with the kids the girls were standing outside in tiny outfits, so not great. During the day it was ok but definately on the slightly dodgy/sleazy side. The apartment itself was good, good kitchen/fridge, tv and good size bedroom. Also had washed and drier which was great. Beds were clean and comfortable, kitchen clean, but things like curtains were dirty. Service was average, when I couldn't find hotel info and asked for it was told it was in the room (wasn't) and couldnt get help for driving directions out of the city (which turned out to be drive to the end of this road and turn left). Also we were getting a hire car delivered to the hotel and I asked them where to park and was told in a laneway - which you couldn't even drive into due to roadworks - so very unhelpful and had to walk about 5 minutes with all our luggage to where the car could be parked. I would say you could stay here if you need a good value two bedroom apartment, dont have a car, and don't need any help with luggage/dining options/traffic directions. I personally wouldn't stay again and would look for other options.

Dear Smithy,

Thanks for your review, I appreciate your time in writing the review.

As other reviewers have suggested, the neighboring streets of the property are being re-done by Auckland City Council as an effort to improve down town Auckland. This is nearly complete and has not caused any inconvenience thus far, they have been great in allowing hotel guests full access to and from the property.

We are in Down town Auckland Smithy, there are always going to be advantages and disadvantages with such a central location. Our property has one of the best waterfront locations in Auckland, we are very proud of what we have.

I am glad you enjoyed the apartment, we offer comfortable apartments that are pedantically cleaned by our dedicated in-house housekeeping team.

Kind Regards

“Location OK, apartments OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We stayed here on two occasions. First time was for one night and the fire alarm went off at 11.00pm and the annoucement was to await further announcements. We did, but the alarm kept ringing for at least another 45 minutes. Our friends on the 33rd floor climbed down the stairs (yes all 33 floors) only to see a shambles at street level and a congested lobby, there was very little management direction. The 2 bedrooms apartments were small and for a family of two adults and three boys 10,11,12... Not ideal sleeping arrangements. The bathroom was tiny to say the least and the over bath shower screen wasnt all good so we had floods with each shower...
If you want a carpark you must prebook as they are limited. If you have a mini van as we did, it wont fit in the underground carpark. Wilson's parking is next door but is $15 for 12 hours after 4 pm.. (Credit card or coins only).. My suggestion is park after 4pm pay the $15 then revisit at 10pm and drop another $15 in the meter, that will give you another 12 hours. Here's a tip...Dont be late as the carpark is strictly patrolled by independent inspectors who booked us 15 minutes over expiry. We then stayed here again at the end of our North Island holiday, the adults and kids alike didnt want to return but we had prepaid... Easy walk to the the Viaduct, main CBD locations and Skytower. Great views from the 30cm wide balconies.. but thats about it..

“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

My son and i stayed at this property for 5 nights - not sure what other reviewers say as the staff on the front desk were very good and friendly.. There were road works the entire time of our stay but as we were on the 35th floor we didnt hear a thing. The location is perfect - out our windows we could see the harbour and the sky tower - The walk to queens street is 1 minute and only 5 minutes to the harbour. The only downside is the bathroom its very dated - join between the shower over the bath and bath had seperated so the floor gets flooded everytime we had a shower, one the lights werent working in the bathroom and the fan was extremely loud.. The beds were very comfortable.
