We spent two nights at Newick Park, and the experience was wonderful. We were lucky with the weather and could look out from our room across uninterruupted vistas of parkland and wild fowl skimming around the lake. Our room was comfortable and tastefully furnished, and the bed was luxuriously warm and inviting. However, the lighting though romantic and incidental made reading after nightfall difficult.
There are several spacious reception rooms, all of which had log fires and welcoming sofas. The dining room is extremely beautiful, with tables set well apart so that you feel you are in your own little world. The food although enjoyable on the whole, was not quite up to the
setting. Continental breakfast particularly was lacklustre, with an additional charge for smoked salmon and scrambled egg, which at this level of hotel seemed petty.
The fact that Newick Park is privately owned is a great bonus - it still feels more like a splendid house than a hotel.
