“Outstanding.....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

Locanda Martelletti is a fantastic spot in the heart of Piedmonte.....close to Asti and Alba and also close to the amazing city of Turin (about an hour's drive by car). The immediate area also got great shopping as Italian fashion manufacturer, Combipel, is headquartered in Cocconato and has a retail store and outlet closeby to the hotel.

That said, the reason to visit the area has to be for food and wine. The proprietors are wonderful and operate a great restaurant on premises. The host, Luigi makes one of the finest renditions of steak tartare I have ever tasted and constructed with all local ingredients, including robustly flavorful Piedmontese beef. Luigi's wife, Marta, is also engaging and can direct you to some of the areas wine jewels. Though we had never tasted the local area's premier grape, Freisa, Marta insisted we seek out a local grower to try. It was one of the best parts of the visit as we visited the winemaker and learned it was an almost a dead match to Nebbiolo.

We will definitely return...Thanks Luigi and Marta

Sincerely,
Kathy & Bryan

“Great stay at hotel with personality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2011

We stayed at Locanda Martelletti for a long weekend in May. The hotel is a hidden gem in its category. The building itself is a nicely restored labyrinth of narrow halls and unexpected turns - quirky but beautiful. Our "Junior Suite" was very spacious and nicely decorated.

Cocconato is a sweet little village with several restaurants and a very good wine bar. The best food in Cocconato, however, is surely to be had at Locanda Martelletti where the chef cooked us up a small feast for dinner. We are planning to come back during the truffle season!

The very best thing about Locanda Martelletti, however, is the friendly and helpful hosts. They put in a great deal of effort to help us make the most of our Piedmont stay, including booking tasting appointments for us at various local vineyards.

I would recommend this hotel to anybody who is looking for a calm Piedmont weekend and a comfortable headquarters from which to explore the region, including its lovely gastronomy and wine.

“Beautiful hilltop town hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

We stayed at this lovely hotel for my birthday weekend, whilst visiting Piedmont. The hotel is in a stunning hilltop town and is a great base for visiting the region. Worth booking in advance for dinner - there's little alternative and we had to eat quite late, as we forgot to book before travelling. The only thing to be aware of is that the town church bell rings from early in the morning until about 11pm.

Room Tip: Maybe worth trying a room on the 1st floor

“The best stay of our Italy trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2011

I can't say enough good things about this charming (if out-of-the-way) little hotel and restaurant. We spent the last 3 nights of a two-week Italy trip here and they were truly the most memorable of our stay.

The hotel is a sort of maze of spaces attached by stairways and "tunnels" of stone and brick. Every turn revealed another interesting room or courtyard to explore. The little town of Cocconato offered an Italy experience unlke any we found in the cities we visited during our trip.

Luigi and Marta were wonderful hosts. Luigi, who is the restaurant's chef -- and an incredible one at that! -- left the kitchen during dinner service to greet us when we arrived at 8:30 tired and confused after our GPS succeeded in getting us lost in the countryside! Rather than worry about check-in, Marta sat us right down to dinner so we could relax and refresh ourselves. They made us feel so welcome -- almost like family.

For anyone who wants to experience the real Italy -- away from the tourist centers -- this is a must-visit. Yes, it's a bit hard to find and it's a little out of the way, but you will be rewarded for the extra effort. We loved it!

Dear Nabuti,
thank you very much for your review, it helps us doing better. Our breakfast normally has:
tea, coffee, milk, bread, butter, jam, honey, fresh fruits, joghurt, cheese and ham, biscuits and croissants fresh orange juice (in season) or fruit juice.
Italian roads aren't easy (it is her beauty!), we need 40 min to reach Turin centre.
I look forward to have the chance to see you again with a more enjoyable stay.
Franca Dezzani, Locanda Martelletti staff.
