Had one night at The Sidings. Booking wasn't smoot at all. First, they lost my original booking, then we we arrived they said my booking had been cancelled that week! I had had no contact from them at all! They wanted to book us into a local hotel! Eventually, they told us they had managed to contact someone who hadn't yet arrived and they re booked them!
The rooms are located in old Pullman Carriages. Anyone with disabilities, or larger than a size 16 ladies would have tremendous difficulty walking down the corridors, and even getting into the room, let alone into the shower!
The room.......well, basic is over exaggerated! The bed linen was clean, it was the four poster bed (yes, in a railway carriage!). Wardrobe and drawers very old ad tatty. Condensation on the windows. It was heated by radiators and we weren't cold, despite going just after the snow.
Tea and coffee provided. Very basic TV.
The ensuit shower room was very basic and in total need of refurbishment. It was cleanish, but water leaked from base of the toilet. Hardly any room in the shower to turn round, though the water was hot.
Meal....odd combination of courses but starter and main ok. Naively put together. Sweet was awful, and only a basic cheesecake!
Breakfast was continental, and not great at all. Dry meat and rubber cheese.
The novelty value of the. Arrives was great, and glad we went, though we did laugh a lot at the state it was all in.
Not worth the money at all and glad I didn't pay full price. Such a shame as it could really be something if a lot of money was invested into it and the booking system changed!
Oh, and it's called the Sidings for a reason.......trains passing so frequently and within 30meters of your pillow!
Don't waste your only on it.

Enjoyed a stay here at this hotel.very different and an enjoyable experience,staff very helpful and friendly.rooms very small but Only to be expected!place very quiet for a Friday before valentines.we had a 3course meal and to much wine!!the food if I'm honest is not great,although
I'd recommend the garlic bread still thoroughly enjoyed and would recOmmend.

we stayed here on a groupon deal and what a deal!!! fantastic atmosphere, really quirky rooms. food was gorgeous,and staff and owner were so attentive could not have helped us more without being intrusive. This is a great place to stay to explore York and you must dine here as food was gorgeous. some of the furniture in the room was a bit dated but i was told they are doing the rooms up. would highly recommend a stay here, we had a fantastic time.

I have eaten at this restaurant twice recently. Once in December and on New Year's Eve. The food is good on the whole and the ambience of the carriage is very nice. However, both times, we were presented with a bill that was correct, but when we went to the till to pay (they can't bring the machine to the table for some reason) the amount we were asked to pay was incorrect and much higher. The first time I queried the amount as I was with a group of friends and it was immediately changed. The second time, I didn't notice as my partner paid, but the next day I looked at the receipt and noticed we'd been overcharged by over £30. I phoned the restaurant immediately and they offered to replace the money on the card. However, this meant a round trip of 20 miles, just to get our money back. If your eat here, check the final amount you are asked to pay very carefully against the bill.
