“very welcoming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 June 2007

my second visit to this hotel and very enjoyable. the staff where very pleasant and helpful the room was very clean comfortable and well equipped being only ten mins walk from the centre this hotel is ideally situated. i would reccommend it highly the breakfast was good too, the hotel lives up to its name being very cottagey in appearance and decor, lovely. guests are free to come and go as they please and nothing seems to be too much trouble.

  • Liked — the helpfullness of the staff and the privacy allowed to come and go as pleased good sized car park
  • Disliked — nothing to compain about so no comment

“fantastic weekend break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 April 2007

My hustband, daughter and partner have just come back from spending the weekend at this hotel. We would just like to let other people know that this hotel is far better than alot of the riviews make it out to be. We did stay in the superior rooms which are themed, eg the bluebell room which is all blue flowery chinz and the rose room, which is pink, but we did see a standard room which was also very nice. The staff were fantastic and were very helpful. The owner personally could not do enough for us and came out into the dining room to make sure we had enjoyed our breakfast and if we needed any maps or advice concerning York.We would definetly stay here again. Very good for walking into York and leaving the car in the secure hotel car park.

“pleasant stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 April 2007

We stayed at The Cottage for two nights over Easter. It is about a fifteen minute walk to the city walls of York. The staff are very helpful, and the rooms are clean and bright, but the bedding and towels have seen better days, and the hotel is full of old dried flowers all over the place, a haven for dust! The breakfast is ample, and on the whole the stay was pleasant.

  • Liked — friendly staff
  • Disliked — old dried flowers everywhere, and bedding and towels seen better days.

“Great Location, Great Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2007

Had to stop over in York at very short notice on Business and luckily found this Great Little Hotel, Only 10 minute walk to Centre of York, Rooms where Clean Comfortable and Surprisingly well laid out. The Full English Breakfast (Included in Price) was cooked to Order so it was Fresh, Hot and very tasty, Not like the Buffet Style excuse for breakfast usually served up in bigger and so called 4 to 5 star hotels, Staff where Excellent with the added Bonus that they where always smiling making my stay all the more enjoyable

“Dirty, Discusting, Dredfull excuse for a hotel.”

found hotel to be more like a hostel than hotel where u are basicly left to fend for yourself during your stay. there is no staff or night porter in hotel after 10pm till 8am which i found quiet unsafe. rooms are too small, with dead flies on window ledge. also no toileteries supplied apart from a old dirty/used bar off soap (very unhigenic). it also took an age for hot water to run in the shower.i was refused clean towels on second day off stay, and also advised that bedding only gets changed every three days. At £80 pound a night i find this discusting and would recomend all potential guests to stay elsewhere.

  • Liked — had a car park
  • Disliked — it was dirty and unsafe
  • Tips/Secrets — Stay elsewhere
