My husband and I along with a friend, stayed at the Beechwood Close Hotel just for one night in December. We wanted to see the ice sculptures and Xmas stalls that were located in the Quarter during the weekend and also take in some last minute Christmas shopping. We arrived at the hotel mid-morning knowing that we wouldn't be able to check-in until noon, however, we planned on just leaving our car at the hotel car park, heading into York and checking in later. However, when we went to reception, we were told that our rooms were ready. As it turns out, ours wasn't quite ready as the maids were still cleaning, but they gave us clean towels and allowed us to freshen up in the room and leave our luggage in there while the room was cleaned. This was very welcome as we wanted to freshen up before we ventured into York.
Me and my husband had room 14 (twin) which was on the top floor and our friend had room 6 (single) on the first floor. Our room was fine, the bathroom was big with a bath/shower, plenty of towels and complimentary toiletries. The room had tea/coffee making facilities, an iron, hairdryer and was very cosy and warm - just as well because it looked like quite a lot of snow had fallen in the area during the previous week so it was still bitter outside. When we checked-in, the receptionist explained that there would be a party going on that evening but that the music would stop at midnight (licensing rules).
We slept OK and never heard the noise from the party as we were on the top floor, however, our friend said that she could hear the music but she got to sleep OK once it stopped.
We had a full English breakfast after helping ourselves to cereal, fruit juice and there was plenty to keep you going. A lovely pot of tea went down a treat!
We paid £151 altogether for the twin room and single room, breakfast included and also £14 of that was the bar bill.
The staff here were very helpful and polite and took their time to make sure that we enjoyed our stay, showing an interest in the purpose of our visit.
I would highly recommend this hotel if you are planning a short break in York. Location is perfect with just a 20 minute walk into York via Gillygate. Free parking at the hotel is a bonus as you can leave your car there and not worry about having to park in York itself. It is a 2 star but I think this is mainly due to it not having a lift. It is very clean and the rooms are fine.
I hope to be going back here next year with my best friend on a girly shopping trip.
