Just returned after a one night stay from this hotel. We had gone for a 60th birthday party myself, husband and 17 month old. The staff seemed friendly to start with but about an hour into the party they decided that my little one was not allowed into any other rooms apart from the room where the party was because the locals had complained. It is impossible to stop a baby from exploring and they wouldn't close the doors to any of the other rooms. Therefore spent alot of time sat in the old fashioned room on a very uncomfortable bed!

Arrived in York on Friday evening at 8pm. Had a reservation at the Astley House but they wouldn't check me in because I arrived after 7:30pm! So there I was in York- tired, hungry and no room! I tried this hotel because all other hotels in York were fully booked. The staff were incredibly helpful and gave me a room. The service was brilliant and the room was clean. I would definitely come back to this hotel! Big thank you to the manager and his staff!

The staff were lovely, really helpful. Off street parking with CCTV.
Hotel really needs updating...our bedroom (14) was awful. The beds had the most awful matresses on...they weren't any point them being there, they were so crap you could feel the divan bed as you lay there.
The room is in desperate need of modernsing.
Breakfast was lovely, good selection.

This is a small hotel about 25 minutes walk from the city center on A19 or Shipton Road.. Has private off street parking. The B&Bs in the city with off-street parking having reasonable rates were hard to find.
If you do not want to walk and have a car then there are parking lots near the center. I used one of the Park and Ride parking lot for just 2.8 GBPs for the round trip bus ride. Parking was free!
It has a good restaurant. I bought dinner with my room rate. About 58 GBPs for a single room with dinner and breakfast. Both dinner and breakfast were very good. Heard that the drinks were expensive so I had a darft beer which was very reasonable.
The staff was helpful and polite.
Spacious room was bit outdated but comfortable. It had TV and coeffe/ Tea making appliance. The bath room was spacous too. Everything was clean.
I will definitely stay here if I return to York.
