Franco was an extremely generous host. He personally drove us into Cortona for sightseeing, and on our last day his daughter personally drove us to the train station in Carmucia. The room was spacious and clean. The views were magnificent. The dinner at the Portole restaurant was one of the best we had in Italy! The hotel is a bit outside of the city of Cortona, but is worth the commute because of the owners hospitality.

The good: gorgeous mountain setting; accomodating and friendly owner; better than average food in dining room; really cute "neighborhood" dog who likes to play fetch with the guests.
The bad: it's more than a few minutes drive from Cortona, and the nature of the drive is one which pretty much limits you to dining at Portole while you're staying here; no bathtub, and the shower is the type which drains directly onto the tile floor so you have to wipe it up after showering, or you'll risk breaking your neck going to the toilet; finally,[this may not be a negative for everyone] the owner's dogs seem to have full run of the hotel, including the dining room, we actually heard a dog fight comng from the kitchen!
