“Fantastic Family Ski Holiday in Lake Tahoe”

We are a family of four with children aged 8 and 7, from Australia. We did a lot of research online before we booked and this property exceeded our expectations. My husband had been to Tahoe before so we knew what to expect of the township etc. You can't beat this location, right at the Gondola in the heart of the village. We had 2 bedroom appt for 2 weeks on the 3rd floor which was just lovely. Kitchen fully equipped, good space and storage, pleasant decor, comfy beds and decent bathrooms. The fireplaces in the master bedroom and living area were fantastic. All very clean. The staff were excellent, we had no issues at all. The ski valet was good, but the charging of storing our shoes was not so good. It was a new policy, not so sure it was necessary! All the staff went out of their way to make us welcome and were so genuinely helpful. The only issue we had was the amount of chemicals in the hot tubs....actually gave us all a bad rash and all our swimmers had all the pigment taken out of them so clearly there is an overdose. We had to stop using it after the first week, which was a shame because it was so enjoyable and part of the apres ski! Many have commented on the lack of restaurant choices. Agree it wasn't great so we did end up cooking a lot. The supermarket across the road was very well stocked. Fire and Ice was one restaurant we did enjoy, along with Kalani's. Both in the Mariott complex. Coffee from Driftwood cafe was good and the best breakfast place with loads of choice. The ski school was fantastic, amazing! Well organised with excellent instructors and our kids loved it. The Tamrack lodge was also a great set up on the mountain and we ate their most days. Sky Deck has great BBQ and excellent bloody mary's! Can highly recommend Mariott, we will most definitely be back and for us we thought while it was more expensive than other properties it represented good value for our experience.

“Cannot beat location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

The hotel was very clean, and we loved our rooming set-up (2 bedrooms and one living/dining/kitchen area). PLENTY of space. The location cannot be beat! We were steps away from shopping, coffee shops, casinos, and a grocery store. Additionally, the Gondola was a tthe base of the hotel, which took us straight up to the top of the mountain for great skiing.

Note to travelers: the gondola is INCLUDED in the price of your lift tickets (even though they don't advertise it).

Very helpful and friendly staff. I didn't want to leave. We will return to this hotel every time we come back to Lake Tahoe.

“Location, location, location”

I was in the US for business and had a few days free so thought I would head to Lake Tahoe (Heavenly Mountain Resort) for a few days skiing. I didn't have a car so needed something convenient to the slopes. As far as convenience goes you can't beat the Grand Residence! Its situated in the middle of the "village" right next to the main resort gondola that services the mountain. Ski rental and ski school are directly connected to the Grand Residence (GR).

I would describe the GR as half way between a hotel and serviced apartments. It's not 5 star, but has all the essentials ticked off. The room (a studio) was well appointed and appeared well maintained - everything worked!

The staff were friendly and helpful, not that you really needed to deal with them much. There is a great heated pool and super easy access to a range of amenities including a picture theatre, supermarket, bars, restaurants etc. If you are the gambling type its a about 10 minutes walk to the casinos.

I would describe it as a little on the expensive side but I guess they are trading on the location which is fair enough.

A little tip - if you are there to ski ask to stay on the gondola side of the building. The building floor plate is huge and its far more convenient to be near the gondola.

“Nice size rooms, top floor”

Great location, needs to improve ski valet service. The choices for dinner in the village were limited.

“administration nightmare”

The residence is lovely, accommodation is lovely, facilities are great and location is good. The administration is a nightmare. We arrived and despite booking 5 months in advance, our accommodation was not ready (after 4pm arrival). We had no internet services for most of the time we were there (they apologised) and we left early as a result. We checked for a bill when we left and were told there was none (we prepaid)-nothing owing. I now find a charge to my credit card, when I phoned, the front desk said it was for parking but did not match the number of nights we were there (and is not close). I was told they could not agree with my calculations despite agreeing there was an issue with the charges and I would have to wait for accounts to call me at some point. They have a lovely establishment but have no idea how to manage client bills, the frustrations we have had with the booking, lack of internet, the final bill issues-it has all been enough to make us not want to return. I thought the newness would have been sorted by now. Advise to wait until they do and hope they do.
