“Loved the villa”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We stayed for 8 nights, and really liked this place. We had a 1-bedroom villa, which for 2 of us was lovely and spacious, with nice modern decor and amenities. We liked having the bedroom separate from the living room, the bed was really comfy (particularly the pillows) and we slept really well. The bathroom was large and had a good walk-in shower, as well as 2 sinks. We were on holiday for 2 weeks in total, so stayed in and cooked a few nights, and found that the well-stocked kitchen had everything we needed (including quite a hi-tech cooker). Good flat-screen TVs and blu-ray players - great for movies on the nights we stayed in (good selection for $5 per night in the lobby). The free wi-fi worked really well too. For a long-ish trip, we also found the washer/dryer in the room really handy (saved us packing space for all the outlet mall shopping we took home!)

When we went out, there was a good selection of restaurants and bars within walking distance. We were there mainly to ski, so it was great to have the gondola right outside, on the days it was running (can bit a bit prone to closure when the wind comes off the lake), and when it wasn't, the shuttle bus stop was only around the corner.

The staff throughout the hotel were really friendly and helpful.

We just had one gripe - the cost of the valet parking! For a hotel of this standard that's not in a city (i.e. parking shouldn't really be at a premium), I'd expect parking for hotel guests to be included in the room rate. $26 per day for 8 nights adds quite a lot to the bill! Even if they offered self-parking at a reduced rate, this would help. This is the only reason I didn't give the Timber Lodge the full 5 stars (would have rated 4.5 if that were possible).

Room Tip: The 1-bedroom villas are great, particularly for a longer stay.

“Excellent Property”

This was our second stay in Heavenly Village, our first stay being at the Grand Residences, which are just adjacent to Timber Lodge.
If we return to Tahoe, we would certainly choose the Marriott Grand Residences over the Timber Lodge.
We had a one bedroom villa at the Lodge for a week. The first thing we noted was the villas here seemed cramped and not as nice. The bedroom area is extremely small. We missed having a balcony. The walls are thin, so you will definitely hear your neighbors. Our villa was not especially clean at check-in, as the bed linens did not look fresh, and leftover food was found in various places in the living area. Housekeeping changed our bed linens upon request once we let the front desk know about the condition of the room at check in.
Service was prompt and friendly at all times. Check out was easy.
We appreciated the fabulous location, but would probably choose the Grand Residences next time.

“One of the best in Heavenly Village”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

This hotel is one of the nicest hotels in Lake Tahoe area. It was clean and spacious and the stuff was friendly. Its location makes it convenient for Heavenly skiers, since it´s in the middle of the Heavenly Village and is adjacent to the Heavenly gondola. It is located right in the middle of everything you need, movie theather, many restaurants, coffee shops, grocery store and casinos. The room is quite large with full kitchen. Outside there is nice pool with hot tubs.

“So convenient!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We had a great time at this resort during the 5 nights we were there. The rooms were nice and clean, and you couldn't beat how close they were to everything. The Heavenly gondola was literally right outside the door, and the casinos were just a few blocks away. We were able to book our room for $150 a night, and with the convenience factor it was worth it.
The only negative was the parking. They charge $26 a day. There are other options, but of course they did not give us those. I think we could have parked at the casino garages for $10 a day.
They also offer a "timeshare presentation" which we sat through. It was fairly low pressure, only lasted an hour, and we received $150 in credit gift cards. Not bad...

“Convenience is what you get”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We've spent a week at Timber Lodge in January for 3 years now. We own a timeshare through Marriott and trade into this resort. It looks great on the outside, the lobby is very nice and it is the most convenient location to the gondola for Heavenly Ski Resort. You can't get any closer except for Marriott's Grande Residence location across Heavenly Village. The employees at the front desk and housekeeping are always very helpful and friendly. The rooms are typical for a Marriott Vacation Club. It's been updated, but you can tell it's not a brand new resort either. The beds are pretty comfortable, good pillows and down comforters. Wish there was a little more seating in the living area and more comfortable chairs. Don't know why Marriott buys club chairs that look nice but really aren't that comfortable. Nice flat screen TVs with DVD players. Small gas fireplaces but warm up enough to dry out gloves if you set them on the mantle or clothes if you hang them on chairs put in front of the fireplace. Kitchen has pretty much everything needed except a muffin pan (no Marriotts have muffin pans for some reason). Stacked washer and dryer are in a closet in the kitchen which is great for washing clothes and reducing the amount of luggage we have to bring. Bathrooms have plenty of room. Master has a large tub and separate shower. Towels are fine, but nothing luxurious. No robes or anything like that. If you're staying a week and don't have the housekeeping service, I suggest bringing your own full size bar of soap. The little ones don't last very long. Not sure how much it costs per night to stay here, but we probably wouldn't pay that much if we weren't Vacation Club owners. You have to valet your car. Owners don't pay for that service (although you do have to tip every time), but other guests pay $26 per night. That's expensive. Again, the biggest reason to stay here is convenience, especially if you're skiing at Heavenly. We have younger kids so it made it easier to rent skis at one of the shops in the Village and then be able to cook breakfast and walk outside the door to the gondola. Ski school meets just on the other side of the gondola in the Village. Also convenient with kids - it's expensive but I have to admit, they do a great job with the little ones. Don't forget to tip your instructors at the end of the day though. They don't make much and several have other jobs too trying to make ends meet. Heavenly is a great ski area, but it's expensive. It's an easy drive to some of the other ski areas if you want to try something different and save some money. Timber Lodge is in the Village. There are some shops, a few restaurants, a movie theater and ski rental stores. But it's an easy walk through the Village to Raley's grocery store. They have $1 movie rentals there which is nice. The grocery store shopping center also has some shops and restaurants. There are other shops and restaurants across the street from the hotel. Even the casinos are an easy walk. We walked in the snow one night to see a magic act at Horizons Casino, and it was an easy walk with the kids. There is a fitness center, outdoor heated pool and hot tubs at the resort, although we spend all of our time skiing. There's a concierge desk in the lobby too that's usually helpful. So if you want the convenience of the gondola, a condo arrangement and are willing to pay a steep price for it, this place may be a good fit for you.

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground floor across from the fitness center can be a little noisy. Rooms on upper floo...
