We've spent a week at Timber Lodge in January for 3 years now. We own a timeshare through Marriott and trade into this resort. It looks great on the outside, the lobby is very nice and it is the most convenient location to the gondola for Heavenly Ski Resort. You can't get any closer except for Marriott's Grande Residence location across Heavenly Village. The employees at the front desk and housekeeping are always very helpful and friendly. The rooms are typical for a Marriott Vacation Club. It's been updated, but you can tell it's not a brand new resort either. The beds are pretty comfortable, good pillows and down comforters. Wish there was a little more seating in the living area and more comfortable chairs. Don't know why Marriott buys club chairs that look nice but really aren't that comfortable. Nice flat screen TVs with DVD players. Small gas fireplaces but warm up enough to dry out gloves if you set them on the mantle or clothes if you hang them on chairs put in front of the fireplace. Kitchen has pretty much everything needed except a muffin pan (no Marriotts have muffin pans for some reason). Stacked washer and dryer are in a closet in the kitchen which is great for washing clothes and reducing the amount of luggage we have to bring. Bathrooms have plenty of room. Master has a large tub and separate shower. Towels are fine, but nothing luxurious. No robes or anything like that. If you're staying a week and don't have the housekeeping service, I suggest bringing your own full size bar of soap. The little ones don't last very long. Not sure how much it costs per night to stay here, but we probably wouldn't pay that much if we weren't Vacation Club owners. You have to valet your car. Owners don't pay for that service (although you do have to tip every time), but other guests pay $26 per night. That's expensive. Again, the biggest reason to stay here is convenience, especially if you're skiing at Heavenly. We have younger kids so it made it easier to rent skis at one of the shops in the Village and then be able to cook breakfast and walk outside the door to the gondola. Ski school meets just on the other side of the gondola in the Village. Also convenient with kids - it's expensive but I have to admit, they do a great job with the little ones. Don't forget to tip your instructors at the end of the day though. They don't make much and several have other jobs too trying to make ends meet. Heavenly is a great ski area, but it's expensive. It's an easy drive to some of the other ski areas if you want to try something different and save some money. Timber Lodge is in the Village. There are some shops, a few restaurants, a movie theater and ski rental stores. But it's an easy walk through the Village to Raley's grocery store. They have $1 movie rentals there which is nice. The grocery store shopping center also has some shops and restaurants. There are other shops and restaurants across the street from the hotel. Even the casinos are an easy walk. We walked in the snow one night to see a magic act at Horizons Casino, and it was an easy walk with the kids. There is a fitness center, outdoor heated pool and hot tubs at the resort, although we spend all of our time skiing. There's a concierge desk in the lobby too that's usually helpful. So if you want the convenience of the gondola, a condo arrangement and are willing to pay a steep price for it, this place may be a good fit for you.
Room Tip: Rooms on the ground floor across from the fitness center can be a little noisy. Rooms on upper floo...
