The last time we were here we cheaped out and stayed at Stateline Economy Inn--eeewww!--, so the Stardust was MUCH better. At the Stardust we had nice clean tile floors and a great little kitchenette stocked with dishes. The room was cleaned daily. Down at the clubhouse it was nice to get fruit, donuts, and coffee and talk with the hostess and other guests. They have theme meals there for a good deal in the evenings, but we never checked this out. Great fitness room and spas. Free wi-fi and huge selection of DVDs!
Now for the downside. When we walked into the room, we gasped a little at how tiny it was. When we put the bed down, it was difficult to walk around it. We had to coordinate who was walking where or opening a drawer when (yes, open a drawer or a closet, and you've blocked off any passageway and trapped yourself and your partner wherever you are). And we are NOT big people. They had the TV on this giant dresser and then this big armoir/closet thing that just took up too much space. In a room this small, the TV should be a flatscreen on the wall!! There was this strange couch that looked like it was found on the side of the road and had no cushions on the back. It also took up space and looked too dirty and uncomfortable to sit on, so it became the place for gear and suitcases (I suspect it has often been used to hold gear).
The tub did not drain well and filled up while showering. Yuck. We left a note, but it wasn't fixed. We came back on our last day of skiing and our keys suddenly didn't work. We walked up to the office and they made us new ones. That same day we went to turn on the TV, and my husband found that the batteries had been removed from the remote. Weird. Pillows were very flat. Bed was ok if you like it firm.
I think that the price for those studios should be bargain basement because they are SO tiny! I guess if you MUST be across from the gondola, or aren't staying 4+ nights like we did, it's a pretty good deal.
Next time we'll be looking at Kingsbury Lodge on the Nevada side, where friends stayed for the same price with more space, or at Park Inn at Tahoe.
