“Immersed in Italy for 40 days”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

I was given the pleasure of spending 40+ wonderful days with the people I now consider my Italian family, the proprietors and employees of Le Vescovane, and it was amazing. I did not expect to be consumed by the experience, however, the hospitality and sense of family that was shown to me was overwhelming. Rita and Luigi have created an amazing Italian experience that should be sought out by anyone who wants to know how wonderful Italy is... If you are seeking the veneer of a hotel chain or the shallowness associated with tourist traps, then stay on the beaten path. If you are seeking an experience that you will never forget and will long to recreate, then Le Vescovane is your destination and is comfortably located just off the beaten path. I highly recommend that everyone who goes to Italy for either the food, the vino, the archetecture, the natural beauty or the shopping take a little trip off the beaten path to truly experience the true beauty of Italy...the people. And there is no better place to experience the beauty of Italian people than as part of the Le Vescovane family.

Room Tip: Select the suite the overlooks the valley

“The absolute best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

I had the chance to spend three wonderful weeks at the Le Vescovane in September 2011. From the very first night I felt like family. Rita, Giovani, Rim, Alberto.... the whole crew there made me feel very welcome. The room was perfect for me, the grounds and scenery were gorgeous and the food.... Oh My Goodness the food is out of this world! With changes in the menu every two weeks I never was struggling to find something new to try. I was visiting due to work but my next trip will be a romanic one with my wife!

“Excellent Value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2011

A beautifully restored hunting lodge with one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten in. The staff is warm and friendly and you are treated like family. Remember, your considered family so, if you need something ask for it in polite and gracious (not demanding) manner. Your grace will be returned three fold. Most if not all of the food is produced locally and prepared in the Venetian style.

This place is VERY popular with weddings and Sunday luncheons. Rightfully so, it is set in a spectacular location and the staff are above average in my opinion. It is not uncommon to see several hundred guests starting at 1pm on Saturday & Sundays. Wedding parties continue until around 11:30 pm. The restaurant is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

At the time I write this I have been staying here for over 3 weeks. Would I recommend this to a friend or family member? Yes, without hesitation. In fact, we plan on returning later this year. But, keep in mind if it is a Saturday in spring, summer or fall there will be a wedding party. You will not be able to move through the crowd without someone placing a drink in your hand and asking you to join in the celebration. It has been a crash course in Italian culture and we frankly, love this place. It is a hidden gem for experiencing the best of Italian culture and hospitality.

“Not quite what we expected”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2008

We followed their instructions and map up a tortuous track to the property to find not a quiet, peaceful "agriturismo" farmhouse, but a mini-hotel with a wedding in full flow. Our booking (made directly in Italian) had been mislaid. After we rejected the first room they offered (small, tiny window, smell of dust) they let us have the apartment (converted barn) which then had to be heated. This has kitchen, bathroom, living area downstairs, and two bedrooms up a spiral stair on a gantry under the (low) roof which is no joke if you are over six feet.

Dinner was very good. The menu was short, and appeared to consist of local produce Breakfast, however, was almost non existent. We decided to move on after one night.

If you have to go here be sure to take route on paved road from Longara - not the dirt track from Longare - locals there were almost unaware of the hotel and laughed when we showed them the map we were trying to follow - words like dangerous and brutal (the road, of course) sprinkled the conversation.

The establishment seems to be trying to be both an agriturismo and a venue for weddings and private parties. This does not quite work, as the guests looking for peace and quiet in the countryside do not appreciate being surrounded by the revelry. In our opinion there just is not room for both.

“Very nice, but soured with phone bill surcharge”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2008

I stayed for a couple nights with my mother and daughter after reading some reviews earlier. My objective was to stay in charming off the path that defy the typical sterile and bland hotel experience. To that, this place is gorgeous set in the Berici mountains. Our room was wonderful, and the property comfortable. No breakfast served at this time - can't recall if off season or what the reason.
For the negatives, there seemed to be a little confusion as to our reservation when we arrived (off season). The drive up was a little confusing, but we finally found the correct street out of the town Longare. The biggest problem was after being told that calls using an 800 Italian calling card were free, we were given a near $100 surcharge (about the cost of the room!!) for the calls I made (about 15 minutes using a calling card). We argued with the owners in their native language and were not compelled that this represented any actual cost. We paid about $30 as a gesture and left, though I still felt ripped off. After this experience, and the dearth of functioning pay phones in Italy, I will bring an international cell phone for future trips. So, if you can avoid touching the telephone, this place can be a wonderful place to stay, albeit off the beaten path a bit (though it is only a 15 minute drive to the Vicenza train station which we used for Venice, or to the autostrada).
