“Beautiful spot in paradise!”

We spent three wonderful days with Avril, Derek and Marcello and felt so special every minute of that time! The location is so beautiful, you may never want to leave your balcony! Met some wonderful people there too! The food was delicious, loved the sunset cruise and hearing the monkeys howling to us. Horconcitos was very enjoyable too and we really enjoyed the little church there and the people that we met. All in all, it was a beautiful time for us and we'd love to come back someday!

“Couldn't be more perfect!!!”

My wife and I spent 4 nights at Seagullcove Lodge in January of 2012. We found it on tripadvisor and booked 3 nights there on a lark, as it was one of the more reasonably priced places in Boca Chica (staying on Boca Brava will cost 3x as much per night), and was well-reviewed here.

We hadnt been there for more than 10 minutes before we were talking about rebooking the rest of our vacation to add an additional day there. Hosts Avril and Derek are warm, gracious, and incredibly hardworking, as is the rest of the staff. We immediately felt welcome, comfortable, and relaxed.

Seagullcove Lodge consists of five air-conditioned bungalows built into the side of a steep hill that slopes to the ocean. Because you get your own bungalow (and each one has an incredible view), you have a great deal of quiet and privacy. The building housing the main lodge and dining room is at the top of the hill, and you descend about 130 stairs past the bungalows to get to the ocean. Beware; if you're not comfortable climbing a large number of stairs in tropical heat several times a day, you might not be able to take full advantage of this amazing place.

As you descend to the ocean, you have a choice of a sun deck or tiki bar at the end of a long pier. The beach below the sun deck is somewhat rocky, but is great for finding hermit crabs when the tide is out. Because the cove is shallow and sheltered by islands the water is fairly calm and amazingly warm. Apart from a small number of fishing boats and globe trotting sailboats at anchor, the cove itself is perfectly quiet.

The lodge has paddle boards and kayaks available to explore the cove, and they are happy to set either up for guests for a very modest fee.

The food was also great; simple and well-prepared from scratch for every meal. Both food and drinks were very reasonably priced, and we elected to eat nearly every meal there.

The real measure of a property is hiwntheynhandle adversity, and Seagullcove Lodge excelled here as well. During our visit, a windstorm knocked out the power for an afternoon and night. Avril and Derek and the staff did a fantastic job of making sure that no guest's experience was disrupted. Our candle light dinner and stargazing with a total lack of ambient light made the visit even better.

I cannot say enough positive things about our visit to Seagullcove lodge, or about our hosts there. As fairly experienced travelers, this place was immediately tied for our #1 all-time vacation stay. For relaxation, quiet, and the most genuinely welcoming service imagineable, it's unparalleled.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

We had a wonderful stay and were so sorry to have to leave Avril, Derek, Marcello and Bucket the cat. They accommodated our vegetarian preference, even offering to drive to David to pick up veggie burgers for us. The grounds are breathtaking. Take a kayak and paddle around the islands. Stop at the hotel across the bay and have a cold beer. This is a place to relax and enjoy. A sunset boat ride with wine and beer and wonderful conversation with Avril and Derek topped off a most excellent stay. Avril and Derek are fantastic hosts and have so many interesting stories about their life's adventures...just ask. We can't wait to go back.

“Perfect in every respect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2011

If you're looking for a serene, relaxing getaway with excellent food and gracious innkeepers, Seagullcove Lodge will fit the bill. It is beautiful, immaculately clean, and engaging in every way. There are multiple areas for lounging about, from the sitting room, to the pool deck, to the beach area, to the Tiki Hut at the end of the dock. The view of the cove, with its moored boats and distant islands, is soothing, as is the sound of the surf at night. The rooms and public areas are beautifully appointed, the landscaping lush. Every meal was innovative, healthy, and delicious--I've never had tastier vegetables. And where else can you get a sunset cruise with beer or wine for $10? Derek and Avril, the managers, are attentive, interesting hosts, eager to please but not intrusive. It was an utterly relaxing stay, and we plan to return.

“Pure Relaxation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2011

A beautiful setting made even better by the wonderful owners Avril & Derek who go out of their way to make you feel at home.

The view down the hillside to the bay is quite incredible and I don't think you could ever get bored of it.

They have built a beautiful Tiki bar with hammocks down on the waterfront which is a great place to relax as is the sun deck by the small pool.

A great find.
