Skylarks is situated in a very quiet part of the area. The two suites are beautifully appointed, and have interesting little touches to make them feel special. Each comes with a little kitchen, and just outside is the common laundry area, so you are very self-contained. There is a feeling of great privacy.

The property also has a hot tub and sauna, which are really restful in the evenings- we used them every single night we were there! There is also a massage therapist who we did not use since we didn't remember the option existed.

On the negatives- the property is situated quite far from Nelson. If you do not want to self-cater, you will have at least a 20 min drive to the nearest restaurant or cafe.

Also, in keeping with the privacy motif, the suites are not serviced each day, so if one is looking for hotel comforts, then this is not the place to go.

I much prefer b&bs (though this isn't really a b&b) with their personalized touches to motels which I find aseptic, and for me this was by far the nicest place we stayed at in NZ. Also surprisingly inexpensive.
