“Relaxing, private villas on grounds of smart 4 star hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2010

Pazo do Rio is a blend of 16th century buildings with lovely walkways and landscaped gardens with approx 20 modern villa/units integrated into the settings. The villas are really well equiped - our kids were ill for the whole 4 days of our stay and it was just a great place to potter around and not do too much. All have own balconies and terraces. The pool is full size 25 metre affair with retractable roof (take flip flops and swimming hats which are compulsory). There is a little play area with swings and slides. There is a paddle tennis court, gym, jacuzzi, sauna etc. - all intimate and well maintained. It has a very private feel and the staff are really friendly. We did not use restaurant so cannot vouch but it looked good. Get good directions before you go as it is not easy to find. It is also about 2 miles from airport so you do get plane noise (but they are irregular and no noise at night.) In fact one of the things that strikes you is the peacefulness of the place. You will need a car or taxi to get in to La Coruna. We got deal on web of Euro 210 for 4 nights but got v lucky with weather for October. Overall, would highly recommend if your looking for high quality peace and quiet.

“Weird location, hard to find reasonably pleasant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2009

First of all this hotel is situated in a suburb of A Coruna and is tremendously difficult to find. Directions from hotel website do not help. The hotel and apartments are quite nice though we were put in what felt like the caravan at the back of complex initially we were moved after we complained to a much more spacious duplex one. The swimming pool is nice if you can ignore the overhead aeroplanes, the restaurant is expensive and as you are literally in the middle of suburbia hard to find anywhere else to go (though we did find a lovely beach resort of Santa Cruz which was lovely and only 5km away).

“Stylish self catering”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2008

We booked a self catering apartment for three and were very impressed with the accommodation. We were given a detached two storey building with two bedrooms, a living/dining area, kitchenette and terrace. The kitchenette was reasonably well equipped - two rings/oven/microwave. The sitting area came with a TV and DVD/CD player. The pool was a good size and very pleasant, alsoefficiently manned by a life guard - be warned that you will be expected to wear a swim hat (good idea but useful to know in advance). The grounds of the hotel are well kept with an unusual view of the hills and the runway of nearby A Coruna airport (c. 10 planes per day fly directly overhead). We enjoyed the food in the restaurant although, as you might expect, it was much more expensive than eating in A Coruna or any of the local pueblos. As our daughter is a strict vegetarian eating at the hotel was a welcome relief in a country were vegeterianism is little understood. I would recommend a car should you decide to stay at this hotel and our tomtom took us to the hotel with no difficulties. English is also spoken by the staff although some Spanish would definitely be an advantage in this area of Spain.

“Wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2007

This hotel is fantastic, a wonderful oasis of calm. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and the service was brilliant. Staying at this hotel is more like staying at a large family house, it is so small and intimate. I have to point out this review is about the hotel and not the apartments which look fantastic and if we were to go again (which we are thinking about) we would stay in the apartments. This is not because there is anything wrong with the hotel accommodation we would just like a change. Our only complaints are that the breakfast was overpriced and the hotel is noisy, not the residents but the building! Floors creak, next door's sink sounds as if its in your room and the beds were far too bouncy (but then we're spoiled at home with a Tempur mattress!) Overall this was a wonderful hotel and the best holiday we've ever had, the pool facilities and restaurant are brilliant and I wish we were there right now.

  • Liked — The fact that it was so unique.
  • Disliked — Noisy floors and bouncy too small bed!
