“Beautiful property but some concerns”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

The bungalows and property were stunning. The bungalow had v powerful air con, TV which was only for DVDs, comfy bed, safe but no phone and no wifi. The wait staff - Gabriel, Glendy and Sandy were fantastic even though they didn't speak English. Unfortunately we were not given a tour of the property so didn't know about some of the amenities.  Ricardo was helpful at times but other times was unhelpful (refused to reconfirm a flight by telephone for us and instead handed us the phone). Other hotels in central america had reconfirmed flights for us for the same airline so we expected La Cocotera to do the same.  Ricardo was also pushy - repeatedly telling us to pay our hotel bill the day before we check out and to pay it by way of credit card, not cash.  Our first tour was supposed to include a guide but due to a mix up only the driver turned up, after we complained this was rectified. wifi only worked in the managers office - we had a good signal in is office so it would have been possible to boost it so it would work in the restaurant and bar areas.
Still the bungalows and location are very nice but make sure you take lots of bug spray as the mosquitoes bite through clothing and operate all day and night!

“A gem in El Salvador, not to be missed.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

Our stay at La Cocatera was a highlight of our trip to El Salvador. after 5 days traveling through the coffee growing areas and staying in Coatequepe we booked 2 nights at La Cocatea and couldn't have been happier. The staff, from Ricardo to Ivan, to Sandra and the Chef, Angelique every thing was terrific. Each day there were three food options for lunch and dinner. We mostly ate the pasta option but it was delicious and the portions were huge!
Our family of four (my husband, myself and our two teenage children) spent the days playing games in the dining area, reading in the hammocks, napping by the pool and boogie boarding in the ocean. We got to release baby sea turtles, which was a highlight as well as watch the local guy climb the coconut tree to retrieve coconuts for serving!
We will definitely come back and recommend this place to our friends!

“Fabulous place, great staff, amazing location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

A friend and I spent a weekend here while traveling in El Salvador. You can't beat the location and the staff was the best. The resort is small and the attention to detail is big. The food is simple, local and delicious.... just like an ecoresort should be. The rooms are clean and spacious and the beds are really comfortable. The beach is empty most of the time and the resort is so small that you feel as though you are the only one for miles around. It was a great way to end a great trip to El Salvador! I would definitely recommend it.

“Terrible service, terrible food, ok premises”

The hotel rooms are nice, some facing the ocean, very clean and new!
The service from Ricardo, the manager is terrible, as if this were his first customer service job, the rest of the staff are friendly but somehow they seemed terrified to be friendly.
Regarding the food... One day the choices for dinner were scrambled eggs or nicoise salad...
Not planning to ever going back because of the service

Joe Schwab, Owner at La Cocotera, responded to this review
16 December 2011
There are many reasons for an owner NOT to respond to reviews - including lack of time, energy, Trip Advisor's long list of rules that make responses limited, blatant lies by upset people, etc.

However, when it comes to putting down the staff at La Cocotera without any reasons or examples, I take serious offense. The staff at La Cocotera are all hard working people who have received numerous specific compliments from many guests and are often positively mentioned by name. They are some of the warmest, friendliest and accommodating people I know and I have lived and traveled in many different places. If they seemed terrified, it might be because of what they were forced to deal with. I have seen hyper-trained staff at 5 star hotels go through the motions of customer service, but any manager or owner will tell you - to have staff that want to please and provide great service because it's part of who they are - well, no training can compare to that.

Our manger, Ricardo, goes out of his way to make guests feel at home and he does it from his heart, as do the rest of the staff. He has various customer service experiences, is bi-lingual and there couldn't be a better quality person managing La Cocotera.

Regarding our food...Besides breakfast, which is buffet style, there are ALWAYS 3 options offered for both lunch and dinner, not 2, and one is usually a local option that can include eggs as well as rice, beans, tortillas, cheese, banana, etc. We never just offer scrambled eggs!

Why some people would flat out lie is beyond me - but, unfortunately they do. Some of these people actually get a title such as Senior Reviewer with a little star above it as if they were someone with valid experience. Sometimes it's simply a case of quantity with no quality.

To this review, I say good riddance. We don't want you back, nor need your business. There's too many kind people out there who are looking for a beautiful location and great customer service. And, our staff aren't terrified of giving it to them. In fact, they really enjoy those people.

Spent a couple of nights here in February 2011.

We slept well and enjoyed the views from the estuary side rooms. Super pool area, good food and attentive service.

Great place to relax for a few days.
