“Great location, great hotel - shame about the food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

First impressions this hotel was fab, but by the time we checked in it had already gone down in our estimation. No conceirge and no lift - 3 flights of stairs with heavy bags = 2 girls struggling whilst the male receptionist looked on. Not a great start!

The room was perfect - a wonderful bathroom that really made it a cosy little break away for us. The only problem was the temperature - even with the radiators off the room was like an oven - it was middle of winter and had snowed but I was roasting!!

The noise of the aircraft didn't bother us, so no issues there.

We used the groupon deal which meant 1 night dinner and bed and breakfast. The dinner was appalling - barely a 3/10. The starter - halloumi with mushrooms was shocking - cold mushrooms and one slice of cheese - if I had paid the full £5.95 I'd have complained and asked for my money back. The main course, fillet of lamb was greasy! There was a lot meat but was fried in too much oil - greasy and tasteless. Shame ... oh and £4.50 for a bottle of still water left a sour disappointed taste in our mouth!

Breakfast on the first day wasn't a great experience. They serve until 11am - great we thought, we could relax in the morning and not rush for breakfast. That was our mistake. Arriving at 1030am the restaurant was empty and all the food packed away. So instead of having a 'help yourself' to cereals, bread, pasties, juice etc it was brought to us by the waitress. The english breakfast was ok - no black pudding and told the delivery hadn't come in. Funny that they had no delivery of black pudding on the 2nd day either!!

Overall, lovely hotel but it's missing the finishing touches that would make it excellent.

Room Tip: Room 339 - amazing bathroom with free standing bath - perfect!

“Fantastic wedding reception”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

My husband and I needed a venue to hold our post-wedding reception for people who could not attend our wedding in Turkey the previous month. We were initially very aprehensive and nervous after reading the reviews. BUT...we were then contacted a few months prior to our event and asked if we could meet with the area manager. I was also contacted by the GM of the hotel and he informed me that we were being upgraded to a larger suite/function room FOC. This was a much appreciated gesture. The hotel were very flexible with our needs. We were able to pick and choose food that we wanted and we were able to state our budget and we were all able to work within this. On the day, the staff were fantastic (especially Sarah - thank you!!). They were all willing to help us set up our function room with our own decs and pictures from the wedding. The night ran very smoothly and was a great success. The food we had was absolutely great and everyone said how much they enjoyed it, so thank you. We stayed in the honeymoon suite which was very nice. I did hear from some of the guests that some rooms were small, but I don't believe this was a major problem. The only issue we did have was the next morning for breakfast. There was a lot of waiting for the food to come out, but again this is to be expected with so many people heading down to breakfast at the same time.
We have no problem whatsoever in recommending this hotel for evening functions, although if you have more than 100 people, I would suggest the marquee as we were all pretty crammed in the Royal Suite and would have benefited from the marquee.
Thanks again to all staff for making it such a great night. (Especially Sarah and the GM).

“Value and character”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2011

Have stayed here many times. The rooms are small but the beds are comfortable. Off the beaten path, quiet and convenient. Pub is great and there are alternative nearby for variety.

Room Tip: Away from the street

“Tidy, Tasty but Slow”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

Fairly clean and tidy hotel with a nice atmosphere in the bar/restuarant, although the service was a bit slow. The food was quite good and reasonably priced. The fitness room is a joke, it does a disservice to broom cupboards and badly needs some ventilation, perhaps it would be better not to have a fitness room if this is the best they can do. Despite being next to the railway station and under the Heathrow flightpath there was no problem with noise. Not bad quality for the price. Overall quite good. I certainly wouldnt avoid the place.
