“A wonderful place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 May 2011

My husband and I have been visiting Downs Barn Farm for many years and it is one of our all time favourite places to stay in the world. It is in a beautiful location close to some lovely beaches and countryside walks. The farm is lovely and the rooms are really beautiful.

Carolyn and Richard Care who own the farm are amazing and make you feel completely at home. They also have some very friendly dogs who make you feel welcome as soon as you arrive. Carolyn can't do enough for her guests and her breakfasts are out of this world.

We can't fault the place in any way and will be coming back for many more years.

“Carolyn & Richard & Downs Barn Farm make a Wonderful holiday.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2011

Suzi and I have stayed at Downs Barn Farm twice so far and would love to go back again and again. All the prettiest parts of Cornwall are on the doorstep. The rooms, Nanjizal & St. Loy are quite different and both beautiful. Softer beds are hard to find and Carolyn's attention to detail is fantastic. Breakfast is an event not to miss, the choice is delightful and all home cooked local produce. We love the whole family and the dogs take us for a walk through the fields and woods down to St. Loy (because they know the way). Carolyn wrote a me a lovely poem about our stay and Richard showed me how to drive a big tractor ..... 'How brilliant is that?'

“Blissful stay - didn't want to leave”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2011

We stayed at Downs Barn for one night after leaving it too late to book. It was the last night of our stay in Cornwall and when we were arrived we knew straight away that we wished we could have had our whole stay here.

The B&B is set a good way off the lane so there is no traffic noise at all and very quiet at night. Carolyn greeted us with a hot fresh cream tea and we sat in the sun reading the papers in the garden.

We stayed in the Nanjizal room which had the comfiest bed and plumpest pillows you could wish for. It is ideal for exploring the countryside, nearby towns such as Mousehole and the fantastic cliff walks in the area. It is well worth making the walk to Nanjizal Bay (map in room) - the most stunning, crystal clear waters, sweeping bay and no tourist shops to spoil it. Heaven.

Breakfasts are also amazing - a huge choice of different locally sourced treats, loads of choice for veggie or healthy and freshly baked croissants.

Can't wait to return!

“Just wonderful!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2010

We have just spent the most relaxing three night stay, with the most wonderfully. caring "farmers wife" we have ever met. Carolyn is the perfect hostess and she made our stay just perfect. We stayed in the beautiful St Loy room with sea view. Breakfasts were delicious (hogs pudding must not be missed). This is a lovely part of Cornwall to explore and certainly staying at Downs Barn Farm will be the "icing on your cake". Don't hesitate to book.

“The Perfect Break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2010

From the moment you arrive Carolyn Care makes your stay at Downs Barn her personal mission - from the welcoming cream tea to searching travel timetables. This was our second stay and we have booked again for next year. The St Loy room was super (great outlook from the bath!), the breakfasts excellent, and the whole ambience was that of being welcomed as a friend rather than just another paying customer. Carolyn' husband Richard is not often seen - he's the farmer, so that's no surprise - but he made us just as welcome. Downs Barn is a real gem.
