“bring bug repellent!!”

The hotel is beautiful, centrally located (they all are), the rooms are large and beautifully decorated....but, the beds are the hard Mexican you find everywhere, the room conviences are few, just a small envelope of shampoo and tiny bit of lotion. When we first arrived we naturally went to the courtyard which is beautiful (all Mexican hotels have a georgous courtyard), but the no see ums attacked us quickly....there aren't any no see ums in El Fuente, they all live at Torres Hotel, as they have a water fall and the gardener waters until the grass is mushy to walk on.

The owner pressures everyone to eat in his restaurant, and I think everyone does, beware it is extremely expensive, for example $25. US dollars for pork chops. We only ate breakfast which was $10. US dollars, juice is extra, we only had plain scramled eggs, a touch of hash browns and a thin deli slice of ham, way over priced and very boring blan food. The restaurant around the corner near the square was very Mexican and cute and good food, moderately priced.

He has gated parking while you take the train, he'll book the train for an extra 30%, which he doesn't tell you he charges, but you do get the best seats on the train, and the ride is wonderful. No way does anyone have to have reservations. I think all the hotels in Mexico have gated parking though.

There are lots of great hotels in El Fuente, and the town is adorable.

We drove down durning the travel alert and had no problems, everyone was wonderful, just don't drive at night, the people are marvolous in Mexico, the place is spectacular.

Oh, and there's a hospital in the town square which advertises mamograms for $12. !!!

“Friendly Old World Charm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2010

This is was our first night stay beginning an 11-day Copper Canyon adventure. Beautiful hotel and garden, with each room decorated very uniquely. Our room was fantastic....can't remember the room number, but I posted some pictures of it. The old hacienda grounds were fun to explore an I wish we had had more time to just chill there for awhile. Only downside was the room is separated from the main courtyard by a wooden window, so it was a little noisy(ear plugs to the rescue).

“Garden retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2010

If you take the Chepe train through the Copper Canyon (and I strongly reccommend that you do!) get off at El Fuerte and spend a few days here! A beautifully restored 400 year old hacienda with great rooms, some with two beds, in a magnificent garden setting. The beds are comfortable, the rooms each have their own decorative theme and there is an enormous amount of space outside for sitting and being zen. Most of the outdoor sitting areas are actually indoor/outdoor, plush furniture under covered verandahs........ perfect for this climate......there is a great bar in the garden and the restaraunt serves very, very good food! You would expect this hoyel and the restaraunt to cost a hell of lot more than it does! In a bigger city it would be out of my price range. It really is very lovely.

“Amazing stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2010

The Torres family made us feel at home and welcomed us with great hospitality. The hotel is beautiful inside and out! Each room is decoraded with such unique style, and the bar area was pleasant to sit and enjoy the evening. Bonifacio's restaurant had amazing food! The langostinos dinner was delicious and the tapas al pesto are a must try as an appetizer!! This hotel was one of the most beautiful places I have stayed, and had an extremely enjoyable trip!

“Gorgeous hotel, full of character with charming owner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2010

I'm so glad to see this hotel is the Number oNe choice for El Fuerte. The colonial buildings and gardens are absolutely beautiful and the rooms are decorated so tastefully. Sitting on the chairs outside the bar with a glass of wine was the perfect way to relax after a fantatic trip on the Copper Canyon raoliway. The owner was one of the nicest people I've ever met working in a hotel. I would highly recommend a stay here - pretty much an experience in itself.
