The hotel is beautiful, centrally located (they all are), the rooms are large and beautifully decorated....but, the beds are the hard Mexican you find everywhere, the room conviences are few, just a small envelope of shampoo and tiny bit of lotion. When we first arrived we naturally went to the courtyard which is beautiful (all Mexican hotels have a georgous courtyard), but the no see ums attacked us quickly....there aren't any no see ums in El Fuente, they all live at Torres Hotel, as they have a water fall and the gardener waters until the grass is mushy to walk on.
The owner pressures everyone to eat in his restaurant, and I think everyone does, beware it is extremely expensive, for example $25. US dollars for pork chops. We only ate breakfast which was $10. US dollars, juice is extra, we only had plain scramled eggs, a touch of hash browns and a thin deli slice of ham, way over priced and very boring blan food. The restaurant around the corner near the square was very Mexican and cute and good food, moderately priced.
He has gated parking while you take the train, he'll book the train for an extra 30%, which he doesn't tell you he charges, but you do get the best seats on the train, and the ride is wonderful. No way does anyone have to have reservations. I think all the hotels in Mexico have gated parking though.
There are lots of great hotels in El Fuente, and the town is adorable.
We drove down durning the travel alert and had no problems, everyone was wonderful, just don't drive at night, the people are marvolous in Mexico, the place is spectacular.
Oh, and there's a hospital in the town square which advertises mamograms for $12. !!!
