“Great lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011

2.12.11 Just got back from lunch at the Coombe Barton Inn and I have to say it was very enjoyable. Celebrating my 60th birthday which the staff did not know about and we had a very warm welcome with a lovely smile. I had scampi and chips and although I do not like oven chips it was very tasty and very quick service with a smile. Once the staff knew it was my birthday my sticky toffee pud arrived with a candle and the staff singing happy birthday to me :-) wonderful experience and a view you would not believe! I will be back, Suzie Xx

Room Tip: only had lunch did not stay the night but really enjoyed it

“Fabulous location and friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2011

I stayed at the Coobe Barton Inn with my partner for one night when visiting some friends over the August bank holiday. It was a last minute booking so the only room left was one with a separate bathroom. I was a bit worried about this, but was delighted when we were upgraded on arrival, due to a cancellation. We had the room with the private balcony and we were able to enjoy the stunning views of the bay.

The room was clean and tasteful and the bed was comfortable. As was mentioned in a previous review, the balcony does now have patio furniture.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The food is quite basic typical pub food - scampi and chips, fish and chips, lasagne etc but is reasonably priced and the service was quick.

We are not serious walkers but enjoyed a stroll up the cliff path and a paddle in the sea. Crackington Haven is a beautiful unspoilt place which is off the beaten tourist track. There is a car park, pub and a cafe, oh and the beach! It is a great place to use as a base, whether you walking or planning to visit the surrounding area.

All in all I would recommend the Coombe Barton Inn and we will definitely be back!

Room Tip: Go for the room with the balcony!

“A great week's holiday; wonderful situation and service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2011

I have just returned from a week staying at the Inn with my 84 year old mother and 13 year old daughter; so a mixture of requirements to cater for. Carl and his staff (who were all helpful, friendly and efficient) looked after us wonderfully. Our rooms were comfortable; room 6, with its own balcony, was amazing, as already mentioned in other reviews (and does have patio furniture now...). We ate breakfast and dinner there each night; good English pub food and on the whole fairly priced. Some fruit and other healthy choices at breakfast would have been good. A fun quiz night once a week went down well, and a live band on Friday catered for most tastes. We may well return!

“the worst value for money I've ever experienced in a hotel”

The setting for the Coombe Barton Inn is fantastic without a doubt. The inn and rooms aren't. We paid a considerable amount extra for a room with a balcony and sea view. The balcony had no furniture at all in it. There was one, upright chair in a double room, taken from the pub downstairs. There had been a superficial trendy revamp of the room, but the bed was saggy and I had a bad back the next day as a result. The pub was also noisy enough until midnight to stop me getting to sleep despite being tired after a day's walking. The breakfast took 40 minutes to arrive, and when it did it was overcooked. Cleaners were hoovering the other end of the bar while we ate our breakfast. Staff were off-hand. We wouldn't have been impressed if the room had cost half the amount, but the amount charged was an absolute rip off. We would go back to Crackington Haven again for a cream tea at the next door cafe, which was fantastic, but we would stay somewhere else.

“Superb retreat in one of mother natures best efforts.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 March 2011

We spent 2 nights at the Coombe Barton inn last week and can't wait to go back again. The location is breath taking set in an unspoilt cornish cove which you would never know existed and you wake in the morning to the sound of the waves gently pounding the beach which is no more than 70 yards away. The locals were extremely friendly and the staff wonderfully accommodating in every way . We stayed in room 6 which has a balcony overlooking the beach and was excellent value for money. Try the rib eye steaks as they were to die for. We are planning a return trip already.
