“A great week's holiday; wonderful situation and service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2011

I have just returned from a week staying at the Inn with my 84 year old mother and 13 year old daughter; so a mixture of requirements to cater for. Carl and his staff (who were all helpful, friendly and efficient) looked after us wonderfully. Our rooms were comfortable; room 6, with its own balcony, was amazing, as already mentioned in other reviews (and does have patio furniture now...). We ate breakfast and dinner there each night; good English pub food and on the whole fairly priced. Some fruit and other healthy choices at breakfast would have been good. A fun quiz night once a week went down well, and a live band on Friday catered for most tastes. We may well return!

“the worst value for money I've ever experienced in a hotel”

The setting for the Coombe Barton Inn is fantastic without a doubt. The inn and rooms aren't. We paid a considerable amount extra for a room with a balcony and sea view. The balcony had no furniture at all in it. There was one, upright chair in a double room, taken from the pub downstairs. There had been a superficial trendy revamp of the room, but the bed was saggy and I had a bad back the next day as a result. The pub was also noisy enough until midnight to stop me getting to sleep despite being tired after a day's walking. The breakfast took 40 minutes to arrive, and when it did it was overcooked. Cleaners were hoovering the other end of the bar while we ate our breakfast. Staff were off-hand. We wouldn't have been impressed if the room had cost half the amount, but the amount charged was an absolute rip off. We would go back to Crackington Haven again for a cream tea at the next door cafe, which was fantastic, but we would stay somewhere else.

“Superb retreat in one of mother natures best efforts.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 March 2011

We spent 2 nights at the Coombe Barton inn last week and can't wait to go back again. The location is breath taking set in an unspoilt cornish cove which you would never know existed and you wake in the morning to the sound of the waves gently pounding the beach which is no more than 70 yards away. The locals were extremely friendly and the staff wonderfully accommodating in every way . We stayed in room 6 which has a balcony overlooking the beach and was excellent value for money. Try the rib eye steaks as they were to die for. We are planning a return trip already.

“Beautiful surroundings - food was rather a disappointment”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 March 2011

We live in the area, but this was our first visit, for lunch, to the pub in Crackington Haven. I have to say I have no complaint with the service which was friendly and willing. Obviously the surroundings, even on a rainy morning, are outstanding. However, when it came to the food, it was nothing special and when we lunch out, we at least want something that we can't have at home! I ordered the crab cakes as a main but the two thin cakes (tasty nevertheless) with a dip and a bunch of salad wasn't what I'd call anywhere near a main meal, and as a starter??? One crab cake perhaps. My husband's Chilli was okay, but again, no side dips and it was very basic. The menu online suggested a choice of fresh fish - fish and chips can be bought anywhere, and the other fish on the menu was over priced, for a lunch. We'd probably go back, but this pub isn't one that will be high on our local return list, sadly.
I've not commented on the room because we didn't stay, and didn't see them. On the food alone, I have to give this a thumbs down - sorry. Perhaps the food is better in the evening/in the high season?
ps I would also comment on the 'toilet smell' that was apparent on arriving through the car-park entrance.

“Incredible views and Hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2011

I am a seasoned visitor to Crackington Haven and so with a few meetings in and around North Cornwall, I thought I would stay at the Coombe Narton which has had a fairly recent temultous past.

The place was quiet what with it being New Year, but the rates were incredibly cheap, the room I stayed in (Number 6) had incredible views, its own terrace/balcony overlooking the beach, it was clean and had very quick responsive heaters which was useful bearing in mind the weather. Needless to say, the terrace didnt get used.

The few locals in the pub were friendly, I only ate once during my stay, but that was superb and if anybody fancies Mr Barton's Fish and Chips, I whole heartedly recommend it.

A throughly enjoyable trip and there need not by any unecessary concern about the future of the Coombe Barton with landlords Helen and Carl at the helm who are clearly doing things right and just what the Coombe Barton needed.
