“Thank you!”

We had originally booked to stay at the St Crispin Inn around the corner from the Blue Pigeons and were a little sad when we drove passed and saw how lovely it was... But were looking forward to the picture painted by the website of the St Crispin... Until we arrived - what must have originally been an amazing old pub has been messed around with, there are bright spot lights in the ceilings, terrible loud 80's and 90's music (think MC Hammer and the Macarena) and the log fire promised on the website was nothing but a dull glow in a wood burner.

We thought we'd grin and bear it, at £85 per night the room would have to be something special right? Wrong. It was a nice enough room for £50 but not at all worth the money we had agreed to pay. We then noticed the huge leak in the ceiling and puddle of water on the floor of the bathroom. To be fair we were offered another room at £75 but a quick inspection showed how over priced this was too and that simple things like the bedside lamps didn't even work.

So... We left... Sat in the car we decided to phone the Blue Pigeons and see if they could help. The phone was answered by a lovely bar man who said he would need to speak to his boss and would call me straight back. He did. We were offered a room for £75 per night and so we made the very short trip around the corner.

The contrast could not have been more striking. We were greeted by Connor who showed us immediate a choice of rooms, all of which were lovely and streets ahead of those at the St Crispin Inn. We settled on the Vintage Room which has a great view of The Street and the church and Connor ensured the heating was turned on, we had towels etc straight away even though we were not expected.

We enjoyed a lovely dinner (excellent food and wine list) where we could not fault anything at all and after a very good night's sleep a lovely breakfast - note that the breakfast is extra to the room price. There was a problem with the water draining from the shower so when we flagged this we were directed immediately to another room for our use.

I cannot reccomend the Blue Pigeons enough and my one plea to the new owner is to not change a thing... Oh, and give Connor a massive raise - he is worth his weight in gold to your business... The Blue Pigeons is a great pub but he is the heart and soul that made it a special place to stay.

“theme room?”

Stayed the night in the johnny cash room. not sure exactly what made this particually johnny cash, (maybe the £85 per night?) there were a few guitars about and some pics on the wall, but pictures of lulu and rotating elvis nightlight tend to ditract from this. Room freezing. (radiator turned off, plenty of notice of arrival so no excuse)

Food stops at 9pm???
Begrudgingly told that food for hotel guests could be arranged, surpised that as they were feeding the quiz teams at 9;30 that they couldnt rustle something up.
Asked what time i wanted breakfast, 8am please as early start. The continental breakfast was very poor fare, cereal and slimy ham on offer with packet cheese. crossoint overcooked, toast cold, very poor coffee. dog running around your feet and begging at table, glad i didnt pay extra for the cooked breakfast, god knows what i would have got

Pressured into signing comments book, (tip: if you want comments leave a card in the room dont pressure people to sign in front of you, its rude)

Went to pay and after clear instruction that it was for 1 room for 1 night, my bill read £170 i watched as it was entered and the room price was entered as £85, not sure where the other £85 came from, gratuity button perhaps.

Sorted the money out and left

Wont be returning

“Overpriced and not very good”

We stayed in a "chalet room". Given the price (£85) and the TV recommendations, we expected an awful lot more. The chalet was cold when we got there (bathroom freezing!), and had, we felt, a cheap bed and flimsy bedding and pillows, and was generally pretty basic. There was no wifi signal whatsoever in the room, despite being just a few metres from the house. Granted the hostess kindly offered to let me use her computers in the bar area, or bring mine in, but I would have liked to have worked from my room. To top it all, there was a problem with the shower head and it showered the entire room (clothes, toiletries included). We think we may even have heard something scampering around in the night...

Since when did English B&Bs stop offering cooked breakfast as standard? I must have missed that. Especially at £85 per night. The continental selection was ok, I've seen much worse, but £8.95 for a cooked breakfast was a bit much. The landlady didn't seem thrilled the night before that we wanted breakfast at 8am, but maybe something got lost in translation as she was perfectly friendly in the morning. If you like dogs (which we do) then you might be lucky enough to share your breakfast with the resident spaniel at your feet (name of Peggy Sue and very cute)!

There are other things, but they're really just little moans and not that improtant. Overall the place was ok for a night's stay, and the staff were nice, but not at £85. We couldn't find what was special about it I'm afraid. If I'd been on the show, I might have paid £50.

I have just returned from a 2 night stay at the Blue Pigeon and can't tell you how impressed I was with the service food and rooms which were provided. I stayed in the vintage room which was an absolute delight. The staff were helpful on places of interest around the area and the barman chef and watress we had throughtout our stay were professional and friendly and very caring. lastly may I say that Marylyn really makes this place tick she is a fantastic character and her personality shines through in all that she does Thank you Marylyn and all your staff for such a wonderful weekend we will be back!!!!!!!
