“A Haven of Peace, Elegance and Tranquility”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2010

Staying at Golden Grove, (my second stay) is like going back to a time of elegance, peace and beauty where so many of the lost qualities and values of modern life are re-discovered and re-lived. Welcomed with such warmth and kindness we felt we were an extended family. Dinners in the gorgeous dining room were absolutely outstanding, cooked with vegetables homegrown in the gardens and with fish, for example, caught the same day. After dinner, the lounge with its roaring open fire, huge selection of board games and books, honesty bar and huge bay windows overlooking the gardens is a fabulous place to relax. The gardens and surrounding countryside are of utstanding beauty and the care and welcome of the owners second to none. We took out three boys with us aged 10, 12 and 13 and they absolutely fell in love with Golden Grove - we all did. This is a very special place indeed.

“A beautiful, fascinating, and very friendly place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2010

What a fascinating historical house with beautiful gardens with marvellously welcoming hosts who make the place feel like home. The bedroom was enormous with spectacular views, and very comfortably furnished. The guest sitting room was very comfortable, and the dining room was lovely.

Local produce ensures the breakfasts are wonderful.

If you want a noisy modern bar, and minimalist marble hotel bathrooms this may not be the place to stay! We loved it because it was a wonderfully peaceful b&b, with a real sense of history, a beautiful house and garden and very friendly hosts.

“We Adored this place, it was stunning.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 April 2010

We were getting the ferry to Ireland from Holyhead, and we stayed here on our way out and on our way back. It was brilliant to break the journey form Bristol because we have a small baby. The house and grounds are gorgeous and were made instantly at ease by the warm and friendly owners. the food was fabulous and the whole ambiance was hugely relaxing. We could not recommend it more highly.

“A real gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2009

We found this B&B through the Internet and were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at this wonderful Elizabethan mansion in the midst of beautiful grounds. We were received by one of the Ann's, who led us to our private quarters, consisting of a large bedroom and adjacent bathroom. After that she showed us to a private sitting room with roaring fire and served us tea and biscuits. She stayed for a little chat and made us feel very welcome indeed. She hadn't expected us for diner (we came from Yorkshire and had hit some extremely bad weather and thus were rather late) but she could do 'something small' if we were hungry. Well, (the other) Ann's idea of 'small' is a four coursed meal, quickly and very tastily prepared, all fresh, and served in a beautiful large dining room. We ate very bit of it and that obviously pleased her.
The next morning we had cooked breakfast, again beautifully cooked and it was gone before we could say thank you.
Both Ann's are very friendly and welcoming and are very good hostesses. I thought it was a pity we didn't really get to meet their husbands but obviously they prefer to stay in the background. We can't think of a better place to stay in North Wales!

“Beautiful Grounds”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2009

While the grounds of this Elizabethan manor house are beautifully manicured and charmingly pastoral, the guest rooms are badly in need of an update. Pink seemed to be the theme of our rooms with velvet wallpaper and a shag carpeted bathroom. The decor was reminiscent of the late '70s or early '80s. Our bed was rather hard and uncomfortable. I did appreciate that a hairdryer was provided in our room.

We were offered a full Welsh breakfast the next morning. The food was good, and our hosts were outstanding. With some work, this home could be a truly stunning masterpiece. The downstairs area is already particularly charming and relevant to an appropriate bygone area. But the guest rooms need significant work to compete with other B&Bs. For ₤100, I was disappointed in the experience.
