“Overpriced and poor qualitys”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2010

Just so there is no confusion this review is about Rectory Farm in Salford www.rectoryfarm.info. I wonder if the language in some of the very positive reviews is very similar?

I was very disapointed in Rectory farm. I stayed there for one night with my mother and found the reception and service to be very frosty. The clothes in the wadrobe (which looked a bit like the items you would find in a dressing up box) were odd and not what you would expect to find. The carpet in the bathroom was stained and not nice at all. The decor in the room was basic and tired. For such a beautiful building the rooms could have looked amazing - but they were just very disapointing. A few magazines - but about 5 years old with coffee cup marks all over them.

Breakfast was fine - not amazing but nothing really wrong with it. I would expect more as other B&B's charging a similar rate norally offer fresh fruit etc.

I think the icing on the cake was trying to get the atention of the owner as we were going. Took quite a while, because she was too busy in the kitchen having a gossip with someone about the other guests and saying how awful they were! Not very professional at all.

The location is stunning. But I would expect more. At About £50 a night it would be fine - but just need a lot more atention to detail.

“Magical Place for Nature Lovers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2010

My wife and I travelled to England with another couple and stayed at Rectory Farm Country House and Farm B & B in Salford for 4 days in June. We loved every minute of our time there. THIS Rectory Farm is "in Salford (there are other Rectory Farms in the UK including one B&B in Oxford so don't get confused)...the tiniest of tiny towns in the Cotswolds and about 2 miles from Chipping Norton. Salford has one pub and about 40 stone houses/buildings and Rectory Farm is outside of "town" by about 1/4 mile and surrounded by fields of food crops and an amazingly beautiful countryside. The B & B is the home of Nigel and Elizabeth Colston and their 24 year old son lives nearby - and the home is spectacular.... The three rooms for rent are all extremely large, beautifully furnished and very, very quiet. Breakfasts are wide-ranging...and the type and amount of food is left to the guest's discretion. Fly-fishing and other outdoors activities are available to guests and the home is a short walk to the Rollright Stones - a facinating mini'Stonehenge without the crowds and tour buses. Nigel was born and raised in Salford and Elizabeth is from a nearby town and they are both gracious and knowledgeable about things to do and see in the immediate vicinity and beyond. You do need a car to get there and get around but Salford is convenient to many other towns/villages and about 40 minutes from Stratford Upon Avon and in any event you will be very tempted to simply stay around the home and the incredible scenery at your doorstep.

“The wardrobe in our room was filled with dusty old clothes, shoes and and old pram..........”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2010

Have just returned from a short break in the UK. We stayed at what we hoped were four top end B & B's. We were very disappointed with our stay at Rectory Farm. At £94 per night we expected far better, in fact we felt quite ripped off. It was certainly not up to the standard of the other places we stayed at. The bedroom was tatty, dark and musty and the bathroom carpet and shower were dirty.
On a positive note, the farm is in a beautiful setting, the mattress and bedding was of a high standard and the breakfast was very nice.
However overall there was no ambiance and there were no extra touches and of course there was the issue of the wardrobe in our room being filled with dusty old clothes, shoes and an old pram.....

“Rectory Farm Bed and Breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2010

I stayed at the Rectory Farm Bed and Breakfast when I took a garden tour in the Cotswolds in August, 2009. It is It was a perfect addition to my trip! This beautiful country home is located on 450 acres and the setting is just lovely. I stayed in the pink room...spacious and cozy at the same time. Elizabeth is the perfect hostess, appearing just when you need something. I still think about her scrumptious English breakfasts. I would definitely return to the Rectory Farm.

“Absolutely Awful!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 May 2009

My partner and I were very unhappy with the accomodation on the whole and our romantic weekend was spoilt by this place.

There was no shortbread and tea offered when we arrived, as promised when we booked. We then had a horrible shock to find clothes and a pram belonging to someone else in our wardrobe when we got into our room!

On the second day, there was no hot water provided so we both had to have a very cold shower. I suffer from bad back aches and the cold water made it worse.

When it was time to pay, (cash only!), we were told it was £10 more per person per night as otherwise told to my partner when he booked. She insisted he made a mistake!

My partner and I have travelled a fair amount and were extremely disappointed with the room and service.

I am surprised that the review above stated access to the 'drawing room with a log fire'. We did not have access to it at all and had to spend the weekend in a cold room, with cold water and a wardrobe full of someone else's clothes!
