“Family Birthday celebration”

We celebrated my mothers 90th Birthday back in July 2011 and had the most wonderful meal here on a beautiful sunny day when we were able to enjoy sitting in the courtyard with drinks before and after the meal. Have visited here on many occasions and overall would rate our experiences as very good/excellent. The staff are are in my experience very pleasant and willing to please. Will be returning in the near future.

“Courtyard Celebrations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

My husband and I were treated to a Saturday night stay at the new Courtyard rooms at Close House as a wedding present from my mother. When we arrived at the main house we checked in and were whisked off to our room in a golf buggy - a fun start!

We were escorted into our room and guided around it (yes - it was that big!!) The helpful concierge showed us how to operate all of the amazing room features from the huge tilting tv to the beautiful lighted mirrors.

The entire stay was superb, a really special treat. We relaxed in our spacious but cosy living area, enjoyed a Molton Brown bubble bath in the huge freestanding bath, drank in the stunning champagne bar, had a beautiful meal and watched the tv in bed in the morning.

Room Tip: If your budget allows stay in the Courtyard, if not, the main house is great too.

“Pure luxury...when can we return?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

We took advantage of the January deal of £140 DBB in a Courtyard Suite. A member of staff showed us to our suite. It is the best room I have ever stayed in (the one shown on the website), huge, beautifully furnished and the bathroom was fantastic.
After a walk in the grounds we popped into the main hotel and had a drink in front of a beautiful open fire. Unfortunately I couldn't have my chosen mojito as they did not have any fresh mint.
We relaxed in our room for a few hours before dinner. The room felt quite chilly and we couldn't get any warm air to come through so I rang reception, they said they would control it from their side and after about 15 minutes the room started to warm up. The bath was lovely and the low level spot lights are a nice touch instead of full ceiling lights, very relaxing.
At the clubhouse we opted for the set menu (£19.50/head) included in our rate and the food was fantastic. Couldn't quite manage to finish our puddings as the portions were huge!
Had a very comfortable night's sleep and made our way to the clubhouse again for breakfast. The options just had to be taken off a menu, therefore no choices of cereals / juices etc to choose from before the cooked option, but this didn't bother us and I can honestly say that the 'full english' was probably one of the best we have ever had a hotel. The ingredients were high quality and served piping hot.
We really didn't want to check out.
I don't know whether they will ever have such a good deal on again, but this was an absolute bargain.
Special mention to Linzi in No19, very friendly, good service etc.
Matfen Hall was my favourite local hotel (staying in a Feature Suite in the old part of the hotel), but I think Close House has managed to edge into the lead. I loved the fact that you could stay in a beautiful hotel, but eat fantastic food in a less formal environment.

Room Tip: Room 32 in the Courtyard if possible

“Fantastic New Years Eve in a Fabulous hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

We stayed in the Courtyard Suites for New Years Eve, lovely hotel with fantastic grounds and golf course. I love the original house, Bewick Restaurant (fantastic food and service) and Champagne bar but the Courtyard suite exceeded my expectations. Very well appointed rooms, tastefully decorated, lovely bathroom with underfloor heating, huge roll top bath etc etc. We enjoyed our fantastic meal, very relaxed with good service and fantastic food, then joined the disco and other festivities. Opera Singer just before midnight followed by a fantastic display of fireworks. I would highly recommend this hotel for a "special" experience, well worth a visit. Excellent staff made this visit extra special, will definitely be back

Room Tip: Courtyard Suites out of this world. We stayed in 24 Stoke Park but I am sure they are all fabulous.

“An unforgetable Night to Remember”

Having just returned from a New Years Eve Celebration at the Close House Hotel, i thought I would write a rave review about our evening there. Then I found I had been beaten to the task by a contributor ie 'bestthingsinlife' We too stayed in room 11 and heartily agree with most of the observations made about this beautiful room.
We booked for the New Years Eve Celebration in the Ballroom and was it good!!
It was simply Fabulous.... the Service was second to none.... the Food and Presentation impressive.... the disco Lively and Fun. But the highlight of the evening was watching an amazing opera singer... Graham Demby perform on an island in the middle of the lake at midnight, followed by a spectacular firework display that had to be seen to be believed.
Obviously all the staff at this hotel take great pride in what they do .... it shows.
We cannot recommend this hotel strongly enough or wait to go back to visit again.

Room Tip: Book a superior room
