“Good but not quite as expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

I was a little dissapointed to be frank, the rooms were comfortable but totally lacked character and there were several minor maintenance issues that could easily but were not attended to. Breakfast however was very good, a wide choice, well cooked although presentation was not a strong point. It was a good price and in terms of value for money was passable. If breakfast had been of a lower standard I would have rated it downward.

Room Tip: All the same apparently, bland.

I am sorry you didnt enjoy your stay with us. If the maintenance problems were a problem perhaps if you had mentioned them at the time instead of waiting 4 months we could have dealt with them at the time.

“An excellent B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

My wife and I had Room 5 for a couple of nights in mid October 2011.

We had an excellent stay. The room is very comfortable, the hotel clean and the host welcoming and friendly. There is an excellent choice of breakfasts.

The main road can be a little busy, but the rooms at the rear (as 5 is), are quiet at night.

Would definitely stay again if in the area.

“A Homely cosy hotel in a beautiful English Village”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

Its one of the cosiest hotel i've stayed so far. The hotel is situated in a small english village. The rooms are tastefully done with beige color.A small B&B hotel with only 8 rooms. Perfect place to relax on a weekend holiday, you can just relax at the front porch with a book. The couple running the show is wonderful & serve very delicious breakfast. perfect getaway. Only you have to find a place for dinner nearby.

Room Tip: Book in advance....

“Simply The Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2011

This small hotel was booked at short notice on the iphone. Probably the best bit of luck I've had in years as we struck gold. We arrived late and were still welcomed with a simply superb evening meal. The room was inviting, spotless and very well appointed. Breakfast was just as good, local produce, beautifully cooked and presented by hosts who obviously are very passionate about their super smaller hotel. I take these reviews extremely seriously and have no hesitation in saying that we've never stayed in better accommodation anywhere
in this country.

Room Tip: They're all good

“Extremely Disappointed ! Was charged for a room they told me to cancel !!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2011

Due to my wife's ill health I requested a late checkout for the Monday morning as she was due in hospital for an appointment and needed to rest prior to this time. I was then left a voice mail from the owner prior to my stay and was told if I needed the late checkout I requested I needed to cancel the room as they were unable to accommodate me as they were going out the next day. As I was away I did not pickup this message until the day before arrival so called Laterooms as requested who then informed me the hotel owner would charge me even though THEY HAD TOLD ME TO CANCEL, I was given three options either be charged £25.00 to cancel, be charged the full £75.00 unless they were able to sell the room or finally to stay in the room which I told them was not an option as I needed the late checkout. I am DISGUSTED at the behaviour of the hotel and Laterooms for being so insensitive to our situation and charging me for a room when they themselves had told me to cancel. I feel that this may be part of sort of fraud to make money out of customers that they tell to cancel and in-spite of the good reviews I feel others may have been cheated in the past so please beware !! I have reported both Laterooms and The Pilgrims Rest to trading standards to have this matter investigated further.

Dearj4s, your "review"has been brought to my attention and I thought it was appropriate to present events in a more accurate timeframe.
Your booking for a double en suite room for the night of Sunday the 26th of June made via laterooms was received on my fax at 3.40 pm on Wednesday the 22nd of June.
Under special requests was the three words "late checkout Monday". As we could not accede to this request I immediately phoned the mobile number supplied ( call time 3 50pm) which went to voicemail and I left a message that we could not offer a late checkout and if it was critical to your booking you needed to cancel via laterooms.
I heard nothing from you on Thursday the 23rd, or Friday the 24th, or Saturday the 25th and therefore kept the booked room available for you.
On Sunday morning at approximately 9.15am I received a call from laterooms to inform me you wished to cancel the room booked for that day.I told the laterooms representative that if the room had been cancelled at any time upto and including Saturday I would have forgone the cancellation fee as per my conditions which you agreed to when making the booking but a cancellation at this extremely late juncture left me with little opportunity to relet the room which as I only hae six represents a loss of one sixth of my income.
I told the laterooms representative that you could take up the room as per your booking, or if I was able to relet it there would be no charge, or to pay a £25.00 cancellation fee to break the contract between us.At 10.13 a cancellation notice from laterooms arrived informing me you had decided to pay the cancellation fee.
I note in your "review"you say you ony picked up the voicemail the before the date of the booking ie on Saturday, but although not being able to checkout late on Monday was obviously critical to your booking you chose not to contact laterooms until the morning of your expected arrival, thus giving me scant opportunuty to resell the room.
I also note you give as the reason for your request that your wife "was due in hospital for and appointment and needed to rest prior to this time", unfortunately the only information in my possession was the three words in the faxed booking confirmation "late checkout Monday" to which I responded immediately, I am not privy to the telephone conversation or conversations you had with laterooms on the Sunday the 26th of June but in the three telephone conversations I had no reason was given.
Finally j4s you must understand that when you enter into a contract there are responsibilities on both sides , imagine how you would have felt if I phoned you no the Sunday to say I did not have a room available for you! You would quite rightly have said you had my details why did you not contact me when I booked to say there was a problem, likewise if your request was so critical to your booking why did you not phone me or fax me or e mail me to confirm you could book out late?
