“we enjoyed our stay”

my husband and i planned a small getaway for my mom and some of our friends during our stay in the philippines. several months before i flew back in manila, i searched so many resorts, read so many reviews, looked at the same resorts that i have seen over and over again, got tired of it and decided we're going to sabangan.
when we got there, we were greeted by their security guard and staffs were very helpful unloading all our bags after checking in. we rented the two bedroom beachfront bugalow. you can bring and cook your own food which is a plus, and FREE breakfast!!!

resort is clean BUT.....would have been much better if they maintained the rooms. the rooms are clean but we found some insects by the night table. bathroom was reeking. water from the toilet bowl runs continously, one traveler mentioned this problem already, i talked to one of the staff and she told me they can't fix it, i informed the receptionist about this matter and she told me nobody said anything about it and they will have it fixed. funny really, it was I who suggested to just replace the fittings in the toilet tank.
their pool is only 4 feet deep. it would have been better if it was a little deeper. They dont allow videoke but you can hear people singing beside the resort.

the beach. we have a nice view of the beach. sand is not as fine like in boracay but its okay, water is very clean. we really enjoyed our swim.

all in all, i enjoyed our stay here in sabangan. i do have some issues with their accomodation but hey, i didnt come here for that, i came here for the beach. i would definitely recommend this to all travellers.

“it's a nice place”

The beach of Laiya is clean and unspoiled. i really like it!
i choose sabangan beach resort because it is a resort where you can cook your own food and they will provide the stove and utensils.
my husband is a korean so i was able to cooked korean food for him.
the people in the resort is friendly and the resort security guard escorted us to the nearest market so we wont get lost.
the loft style cottage is big and the aircon is not noisy i really enjoy staying there despite the 3 cockroach in the bathroom that we killed using our own slipper.
i hope sabangan could hire a lifeguard so people can enjoy night swimming in the beach and in the pool..the pool is until 7pm only..how sad.
but its a really nice place to stay..and my 17month baby is so happy playing in the beach,,

“I am surprised that most reviews are so positive...”

We spent 2 nights at this resort, encouraged by the recommendation via tripadvisor and some other google searches. When we arrived we liked the place, the nature, friendly staff and the houses (from the outside). Soon we discovered that this resort is basic and far too expensive for what they offer. I have to admit, we took the most expensive unit near the beach with two bedrooms and a bathroom; kitchen, ref etc and sitting area outside covered by a roof. Price approx PHP10,500.00 of this unit (over 200 USD).
The bedrooms were stuffy: most likely not been opened since the previous guests; the sheets on the beds smelled stuffy as well - I didn't enjoy my nights there..... The interior of all rooms was badly maintained: you could see however that there were better times.... The toilet in the bathroom had constantly running water; the tap in the bathroom was loose, so whenever you wanted to open the tap you had to hold it with two hands.
Restaurant? Yes... but please... don't call it a 'restaurant'. It opened when more guests arrived. Poor menu, however what they had tasted ok. Newly build swimmig pool? Same story: we could use it when more guests arrived on Saturday, but the water was too warm and not clean. It is located in the middle of the property: it would have been so much nicer to build it at the place where their restaurant is... a missed opportunity to upgrade the resort....

Now, is it all bad? No, the place is ok when you come here with a group and share the expenses, but for a family it is way to expensive for what you get.... It is a Filipino style resort: you bring your food and cook yourself.
The neighbours have a resort as well (Acuatico) that is slightly more expensive (12K) but you get quality and a clean and modern resort with everything you want for a 2 days trip .... We ended up eating there (since the restaurant was not open in Sabangan...) and enjoying nice shakes there...

Besides all this we had to deal every 10 min on the beach with vendors, who, yes, need to make their living, but the idea of going out for 2 days is to relax and not to be bothered too often. "Foreigners" find it annoying to be bothered all day by vendors. "Acuatico" made sure that no vendors were allowed on 'their' beach.

Conclusion: As a family with two children I wouldn't choose to come back because of the expense for what you get. This place has potential, but the owners should invest to make it a 2010 style resort - meaning, people nowadays want to pay, but expect value for their money.

“Home away from home”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 June 2010

My uncle brought the whole family here for a weeknight stay for relaxation. Laiya beach is indeed beautiful. The waters are clear though the sand is not that fine as that of boracay. However, with the clear blue waters,I would definitely comeback.

This beach is for people who want a quiet and relaxing time at the beach. It is not commercialized like boracay.

For sabangan resort,it is a value for money resort. It is clean and the price is quite reasonable compared to its neighbor, acuatico. I think it is because of the facilities. Acuatico has a bali resort architecture and has a swimming pool. It shares the same beach strip also with the famous La luz resort.

The loft type cottage that we stayed in can accommodate a large group. It also has a tv,ref, big rice cooker, stove, and other kitchen utensils. It is like staying at home where you can bring and cook your own food.

All in all,was satisfied with the resort and with laiya beach. Will definitely come back =)

“A Relaxing Get Away with my Family....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 April 2010

I recommend this place for those families who likes to relax and wanted a quiet place to rest and enjoy... This resort do not have noisy videokes which can ruin your mood!! The pool is nice but I think they should extend the time of using this facility... The pool is open 7am until 7pm only.. So I think they should work on it... The accomodation is nice... clean... and most of all the staff s are very frienldy and corteous... By the way, we stayed at 2A villa (beach front) for an overnight stay (April 25 -26 2010). You can avail their buffet meals but for us we cooked our own food for lunch and dinner since they provided some utensils...

Reminder: The sand in Laiya is not fine it is somewhat pebbly... Please wear flip flops or any footwears... You should also keep an eye on your siblings while enjoying the beach... the children can only swim approx. 2 meters away from the shore...
