We stayed at Congo Bongo in early Feb 2012 and really loved it there. However at this time it was very humid and since there is no air-con, (there is a Fan in the bedroom) some people might be a little put off by the dampness of all clothing. This is the only reason we have not rated it 5, and I realise this is beyond Daan's control!
This said, we stayed in Dream House, and it was exactly that. It is very open on all but one side, and that contains the bedroom and bathroom. It is the only area which can be locked and does have a safe. The kitchen, dining and lounge area ( including a lovely hammock) are all set on a wide L-shaped verandah and the house itself is surrounded by rain forest and tropical garden plants with a path leading, via a boardwalk to the beach. This is the quickest way into town for shopping or eating out and is one of the things which makes the place so convenient to stay in as it is only 10 mins walk.
The beach itself is very quiet, although close to town it gets busy at the weekend. It is also beautifully clean as the tide washes it up to where the jungle meets the sea. At the time of year we were there there were good waves for belly boarding but snorkelling on the reef at the town end of the beach had rather poor visibility. Apparently later in the year it is usually very calm and you can snorkel from the shore straight on to the reef.
You wake to the sounds of humming birds which fly through the verandah, and howler monkeys calling as they wake up. It is truly magical. Very quiet and peaceful with no one to interrupt you.
Daan, the owner, is extremely helpful with booking any activities you want to do and also is happy for you to use your own or his computer at the office where there is wifi connectivity. Another bonus is that any washing you want done is free and is returned within a few hours of being collected. This is a tremendous help, as drying things, at least at this time of year, is difficult.
