We went as a family group for the Christmas weekend and had a great time at the Windflower.
I had tried the WIndflower in Mysore and found that somewhat disappointing. This one is miles ahead, with excellent location (nestled inside a coffee plantation) and wonderful, cheerful, attentive staff.
Since we went in Dec, the weather was pleasant in the daytime and cold after sunset. A 1.6 KM katcha road takes you away from civilization into the peace and quiet of the resort. Cottages (studio rooms and suites) are built around a looping paved footpath on one side of the central reception and dining hall. Standard rooms are on the other side of the reception, built as blocks of 6 rooms each, spread over three floors. Rooms are large and well appointed, with a huge balcony overlooking nature. Outdoor showers are de-rigueur now-a-days.
The reception and dinning area are open to nature. The dining hall overlooks the infinity pool (the pool drops off into the plantation). Dinner time was cheerful and bustling, lots of families having a good time, live band playing, Santa hats for everyone, good fun. The food itself was somewhat disappointing. The continental stuff look unappetizing; the north Indian dishes were red and oily; no south Indian options at all. May be the non-veg food was better; I wouldn't know. Everyone else except me seemed to be enjoying the food, so I guess this kind of food works for most people :-(
The staff were extremely cheerful, attentive, and helpful, in the restaurant, in the reception, everywhere. Whoever is managing this team seems to be doing a good job. This resort scores high on that front.
Plenty of off-resort activities on offer - quad biking, zorbing, rough jeep ride (all these activities come with a hefty price tag). More choice than I have seen elsewhere. We tried quad biking; the youngsters enjoyed it. Within the resort they have bicycles (they charge hourly for the bicycles which I thought was a shame), horse riding, TT, Fussball.
Great place for a family vacation. Quite, peaceful, friendly staff, good weather, average food. Quality resort. Highly recommended.
Top floor rooms have excellent balcony views. Avoid ground floor rooms. They have no view at all!
