“Tries hard”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2012

A friend and I were looking for a few days outside of Mysore near a national park. We selected Machaan Resort near Nagarhole. The 'resort' is a converted bungalow on a coffee plantation in the forest. It's a working plantation with the mound of beans growing on the concrete apron in front of the bungalow. While the resort staff tried to be helpful, their accommodation was very close to the guests and late night noise was an issue. Food in the nearby pavilion was plentiful but only average.

Room Tip: The bungalow's large and interestingly furnished, but close to road and workers.

“RELAXING”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2012

Machaan is a nice and decent place to relax in the woods, its not a resort basically, but a very nice place to stay and enjoy with close friends, not for families with kids, indeed a nice place for college reunions. The cottages were really neat and well organised .The food served was really delicious,we would like to extend our special thanks to Mr Basil the manager,Venkatesh our cook, and our heart filled thanks to one juvenile guy by name Vishnu,we have to learn what hospitatility is from this guy.

“very disappointing”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

checked the pictures through the net it was reaally amazing and the marketing executive gave us high expectation of the resort but it was so different when we reached there with so much of pain the roads were so bad(night mare) and the rooms were so pathetic defintely families with kids cannot stay there.it is not a organised one and the is so high for that place.
so we learnt a lesson that not to decide anything seeing the net.

Room Tip: u can try kings sanctuary nagarhole

“Charming!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

We are just back from a 2 day stay at Machaan and it was lovely! Nagarhole itself does not offer much of a 'safari' experience as they have only those 15 seater buses forest department buses which can go in a very limited area of the jungle. So the drive from Nagarhole to the resort is a great way of doing something of your own safari. We stayed one night at the Cottage and one night in a Bungalow - which is an old Coorgi bungalow. The cottage was beautiful, spacious and well designed. The Bungalow, though charming, needs overhauling and more maintenance. Food is average and may benefit by including more of the local coorgi cuisine. The highlight of this place, apart from the beautiful surroundings, lush green forest, coffee and spices, has to be its staff! They really are very friendly, polite and keen to make your stay as nice as possible.

“Excellent weekend getaway to Coorg / Nagerhole”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

We recently spent a couple of nights at the Machaan.
Located in the south Kodagu (Coorg) district of Karnataka, the resort is within a 30-minute drive from both the Nagerhole NP (in Karnataka) and the Wyanad (Muthanga) NP (in Kerala), with both sanctuaries offering wildlife sighting opportunities. It is a comfortable 6-hour drive from Bangalore (Kengeri) on excellent National and State highways. One also gets a feel of dirt-track driving for the last 500m or so, as one gets away from paved roads to drive into the estate.

Situated amongst the serene greenery of a Coorgi coffee plantation just next to the Nagerhole NP, Machaan lives up to the expectations of a relaxed weekend getaway that does not deplete the wallet.

The staff is enthusiastic and helpful, Mr Basil the resident Manager is courteous and professional and well acquainted with the local flora and fauna - specially birds and butterflies. A very helpful guide for walks and field trips.

The cottages are discretely located and each cottage building has twin units, ideal for two families on a weekend. The rooms are modern, well-appointed, spacious and airy. Our room (Room #1) also had a sit out. The skylighted bathroom was executive quality and styling. There is a DG set for power backup and a central boiler to provide hot water in the taps.

The food is simple and delicious, specially after long walks. And thankfully the rooms don't have TV !

Room Tip: I guess, all cottages / rooms are well appointed
