Yup - as rightly stated by Eagles in their all time classic 'Hotel California' - I have checked out of Orange County Coorg - but haven't left :(
Was checked in with a broad smile and a tilak with a cold coffee as welcome drink. Oh and before I reached I received a call on the way asking how far I was and the the lady was kind enough to speak to the driver and explain him the route if he found it tough. Who is otherwise bothered when and how I reach! So sweet.
The only problem - the road to the resort is not that great - specially the last 10 kms. So, I'd recommend everyone to use an SUV or cars like Tavera & Innova if on hire. Small cars could be a little more uncomfy to travel in.
ROOMS: The "County Cottage" was nice. Had everything we wanted. The bed was comfy - the room was good in size - there was a nice sit out area. Whatever is available in the room (cold drinks, fruits, cookies, etc) are included in the tariff so it doesn't hurt later ;-P They even had a choice of pillows! How cool. The bathroom could have been a bit larger than it was. They have a small garden sorts in the bathroom which cant be opened - I'd recommend an open shower or tub there. No point wasting space. :) The fragrance in the room needs a special mention. Every time the room was cleaned - the room smelt so AWESOME! Why do they have two rooms in every cottage? It would have offered more privacy if they was individual.
PROPERTY: It is a HUGE property and kept really well. It is so huge that there are golf carts (fondly called 'buggy') to ferry you from one place to the other. They have a lake, plantation, activity area, garden, spa, fitness center, 2 pools etc etc. Cleanliness has been maintained at its best. It surely isn't easy to tidy up such a huge property. Kudos to the cleaning staff. Everything has been done to perfection. I was lucky enough to meet the Chairman of the resort who was simple and humble. They've got a lot of activities in the resort to keep you occupied. Again, most of them are already included in the package so no more paying up. Must mention the cycle ride to village was great. I must have ridden a cycle after 10 years. There is a cultural show every evening which isn't to be missed. The infiniti looking pool is a treat to eyes.
FOOD: There are 3 restaurants. Pepper Corn was the best amongst them for the cuisine they serve and the ambiance. They had organized a candlelight dinner with wine and cake for us since we were on honeymoon. How nice. This restaurant however has a nominal cover charge which no one would mind paying. Plantain Leaf was another restaurant for pure veg Thali lovers. I quite did not like Plantain Leaf. The all day buffet restaurant was good. The breakfast specifically was very complete and tasty.
SERVICE: Top Class - I haven't seen better service ever. There is a warm and sweet "Namaskar" every time you see a staff. The staff put in all effort to ensure we have a comfortable stay. The housekeeping guy was extremely sweet. Rooms are cleaned upto 3 times a day and they are cleaned really well with even our clothes neatly folded and stacked. The waiters in the restaurant run around to ensure you get what is needed. Every one you interact with is extremely polite and sweet. Plus - a lady takes care of all your needs so can be called from intercom for any info anytime.
Though the place is a little overpriced - considering whatever it offers - it is certainly value for money. I'd recommend this place for everyone.
Room Tip: All rooms a good. Go for a pool cottage only if you are going to spend a lot of time in the room/poo...
