“Great Bar but Food a let down”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

I visited the Crown last Sunday 22nd Jan and was pleasantly suprised by how nice the interior was as I hadn't been in there for quite some time. It had a very good bar with an excellent selection of beers - there was a great atmosphere as an important match was on and it was Sunday lunchtime. The dining area was well laid out and modern and the staff were very good. The menu selection sounded very tasty, the wine was lovely, the food turned up looking good but then..... nothing! No taste whatsover - bland doesn't even come close and that was with the addition of salt, pepper, sauces, etc. There were six of us and we all had relatively differing starters and mains - all were tasteless - its quite a feat! Such a terrible shame, I hope the owner/manager reads this because you have got all the other areas of your hotel/bar spot on - the food looked good and the quantities were right but somehow your chef/cook is not tasting or has lost his/her sense of taste - this is the one thing that you can put right and it won't cost alot to do.

“Lovely stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

I was given a very warm welcome by the staff and had a lovely stay, I stayed in room 1, the room was fantastic, very big, spotlessly clean with a huge bathroom that has a roll top bath overlooking the common. The food was very impressive and again the staff were really friendly and really helpful even with my fussy girlfriend! For breakfast there was a big selection and the cooked breakfast was excellent. I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it to anyone!

“Helpful staff, enjoyed our night”

I stayed here with my daughter when she was auditioning for Bird College. The twin room was comfortable and quiet, being in an annex. We were allowed to stay beyond the normal check out time as my daughter had to get ready and we not charged for the extra couple of hours. There is a small car park which was fine for my mini. There are very few hotels in the area and we would definitely return.

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

I'd booked this pretty looking pub through Late Rooms as it was rated as a 4 Star establishment. However after our stay, I'd rate it 3 at a push. Our room was adequate, nice bed and linen, massive bright en-suite bathroom, although dusty with peeling paintwork hanging from the ceiling. Thanks for the traditional tea/coffee making facilities; good work. Some hotel/inns have stopped doing this; maybe because of the recession, who knows.
The staff were very friendly, but somewhat under-trained for somewhere that is to maintain a 4 rating. The food and it's service was poor unfortunately. My evening meal was the boulibase, even for microwaved food it was poor, laying on top of it's solid basmati (?), rubber seafood and bland fish. I don't think it had ever seen garlic, or wine, in its evolution to the plate, even though allegedly it did on the menu.
Our breakfast was interesting. After a 15 minute wait the polite waitress took our order for breakfast and 15 minutes later we got our coffee. Whilst hearing the staff slag off the French residents for asking if they had the honey, that was listed on the menu, we received our white toast (we'd asked for wholemeal, but I didn't want to join the list of grumblers in the kitchen announcements). The entertaining waitresses could be heard swearing beautifully at the cook, whilst he made them squeal jauntily. It's a shame were weren't asked how our food was after we received it. After the frustrating wait of 50 minutes to get our food, and the poor service we would have given the honest answer of "not good, thanks". We were aware that this is just an inn, not a hotel, but all the little things spoilt our stay, especially with the laughable 4 Star rating. The lovely friendliness was welcoming, but so disappointing overall.

“Our amazing wedding at The Crown Inn!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2011

We first visited The Crown Inn in March as we were planning our wedding for the coming July.

Having already booked another venue in Chislehurst, we were some what glum that we had not chosen The Crown for our big day!

Subsequently, we decided to jump ship and book The Crown! We spoke to Julia, the Wedding Co-ordinator, who confirmed that the date we wanted for our wedding was available. Julia was at all times professional, helpful and knowledgeable about organising wedding receptions. Nothing was too much trouble and her efficiency was second to none!

Our big day was here and, from the moment our guests arrived, greeted by Pimms and canapes in the beautiful garden, until the time we retired to bed, the service was exemplary! The setting is truly beautiful and the team had pulled out all the stops in making the function room spectacular.

The menu we choose, we hoped, would suit all of our guests' tastes; baked camembert, roast beef and pear and almond tart. All the food was fresh, hot and beautifully presented. Our guests commented on how much they had enjoyed the food, compliments to the chef and his team!

We decided to spend the first two nights of married life at The Crown as we don't live in the area. The rooms on the first floor are clean, bright and well appointed, the bathroom in particular with a free standing roll top bath was wonderful with views over Chislehurst Common. The balcony added a magical touch. Breakfast was fresh and delicious with a good choice of cereal and traditional English.

Reuben and Kate, who run The Crown Inn are true professionals in their field. Their hospitality and welcome made not only us, but, all of our guests, feel truly at home. Nothing was too much trouble and they let us know that they were always there should we require anything else. We cannot thank them enough for making our day seamless.

The levels of service provided by their team was above and beyond the call of duty. We would like to say a VERY SPECIAL thank you to Laura, Mark and Kirsty, you made our day and are wonderful!!!!!!!

If you are looking for a wedding venue, an overnight stay,an evening meal, or a relaxed drink in Chislehurst then look no further, visit The Crown Inn for excellent food, drink, hospitality and wonderful service.

We are still overwhelmed by the kindness and consideration of all the staff. A big well done to Reuben, Kate and their amazing team. We will be back!!!
