Despite booking our 2 night stay by phone a week in advance, the receptionist claimed to have no record of it and offered us " the only room left", right beside the reception desk. As time was short we took it, but during the next two days we saw no other guests in the hotel - strange.. We asked for a security box but were told that it was not necessary--"just lock your room"; fair enough but the subsequent attitude of the staff did not make us feel secure in leaving our possessions.
A continental breakfast was offered in the room price but this turned out to be a table set out int the lobby with a none too fresh sliced loaf, some margarine and jam and paper plates to put it on. There was no coffee as the hot water heater was not working and the only other drink on offer in this land of glorious fresh orange juice was a plastic container of squash. Fair enough for day one but the water heater was not replaced the next day and it was still the same sliced loaf.
The maids stood around the lobby laughing and chatting, putting on makeup etc. and generally unnerving us as we seemed to be the joke. They managed to bring in takeaway breakfasts for themselves and spent more time on their social life than on any guest service.
That said the hotel, was clean and the room fairly comfortable. What a pity about the staff!
