“Always wanted to stay here”

Having seen this hotel from the m5 on a few occasions it always looked very nice, thats all it does, look nice.
Bad impression when we arrived at reception, as we were spoken to and had started to give details of our reservation when we realised the staff member was on the phone, this wasn't the problem, just that he never bother to say. We had phoned previously and asked for an upgrade, to be told when we arrived there weren't any available.
Got to our room which was a double, it had a large bed , two singles zipped together with a very poor topper, we don't like beds like this, the room was very small and tired looking we complained about this and about the bed, a larger room was found, although the bed was the same.
As the hotel was out of the way we ate in the resrurant, It was one of the worst meals I have had, well the starter was ok...I fillet of sea bass, I say fillet as there was only one, the veg ha been cooked for so long it was hard to know what it was, sugar snap peas were on the menu, there was no way they would of snapped.
We had a drink in the bar, the service was terrible, whehe was hard pressed to know what that wasn somewone did show up, he did'nt understand what we wanted, we ended up with 2 halfs of larger, a couple of men laughingly told us he'd been the same with them.
A very disapointing experiance which I had been looking forward to.

Room Tip: Didn't have a problem with road noise, we were at the front of the hotel and could see the motor...

We are very disappointed that you had such an unfortunate stay with us. the level of service you received falls well short of the standards we aspire to at the hotel. We have had some new recruits at the hotel recently and clearly more training is necessary to ensure our service levels do not drop.I apologise for our shortcomings and hope you will return when we will be able to demonstrate the improvements in service we have been making

“Good hotel but lacking some customer service.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

The hotel has lovely views over the countryside although the M5 motorway runs quite near and road noise is not completely irradiated in the rooms. There is ample parking free of charge. The hotel is otherwise quite remote.

The room provided was quite small with only minimal room to manoeuvre around the double bed. Tea and coffee facilities were provided. An iron and board was quite promptly delivered after requesting. Although small the room and bathroom were clean and functional all things considered.
The function was well organised with good food efficiently served to the masses. Live band and bar all efficient and enjoyable.

The gym, pool, sauna and steam room provide good facilities albeit with cold showers in the mens changing rooms(?!). The staff were too busy joking around to deal with my questions.

My main gripe was the service at the general bars and at breakfast. Before the function we got a drink in the main bar but had to wait quite a while. Then after the function there was one slow barman working which resulted in my waiting half an hour at the bar before I gave up. We arrived at breakfast at 09:30 (breakfast served till 10:00) to find no staff available to tell us if we should wait to be seated, no offer of tea or coffee (we had to ask) then almost no food available on the hot buffet. For the next half an hour additional mushrooms appeared (already available!) and then 4 fried eggs (there were about 8 people waiting!). I made do eventually with tea and toast (when the bread appeared!)

On checkout I raised the issue of breakfast. The manageress mumbled that no-one else had complained (I know many of their quests for that function and they are too polite!), that it was a staff training issue and a particularly unwelcome comment that ‘the early bird gets the worm’! I made it clear that if breakfast is advertised till 10:00 then food should be available until close. So the hotels response to my complaint was a disgruntled acceptance and £7 knocked off the bill when a sincere understanding apology would have been far more fitting.

All in all this was not a bad hotel but unfortunately needs to work on customer service. The function worked smoothly for over a hundred people, however breakfast for 20 did seem too difficult!

Room Tip: The hotel does amble on somewhat with no lifts and many stairs right before or after doors so elderl...

“What on earth?”

I will shortly be writting a long review which is well documented over the course of my many stays at this hotel. I am closetted here by my company whilst I undertake some tasks which will remain nameless untill my large review, however, I had to put this one experience across.

Thursday, 12th Jan 2012

Sitting in the courtyard, I was trying to get some reception on my mobile whilst talking to my better half. A member of staff (limited english volcabulary) walks from the kitchen area carrying room service (food and drink). Unfortunately for him, the coke glass he was carrying (pint) was full to overflowing, I could see him struggle. All of a sudden he stops, leans over the glass (you guessed it) takes a slurp from the top of the glass to make his journey more stable. I was so shocked by what I saw that I didn't even know how to express myself. I simply looked on in amazement.

Stay tuned for my main review based on over 75 nights at this hotel! It will be fair i.e. praise given where warented and

I apologise for the behaviour of a member of my staff, the offending person was a trainee who clearly lacked even the basic concept of customer care and is no longer with us. His actions fell well below the standards we aspire to at the hotel and is totally alien to the many compliments we regularly receive.

“A pleasant stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Arrived in the daylight and the hotel looks amazing. Room is very basic and can be cold, keep curtains closed. There is no one manning the bar which can be a pain. The staff and service is brilliant apart from the bar issue. We ate at the hotel Inc breakfast, bar meal and the restaurant. Food was lovely can not be faulted. Pool is nice but very busy with local children so not great for a spa relaxing weekend. Sauna/ steam room is separate and you have to walk through the gym to get to it. I had a massage with sue gale at the hotel. This was AMAZING!! best massage I've had I would recommend it highly!! Location is very remote and not in walking distance to a pub or other places to eat but if you want remote it's perfect! Overall it's a lovely hotel and I've had a relaxing weekend. Staff are very helpful.

Many thanks for your kind comments and we are pleased you enjoyed your stay and the many excellent facilities at the hotel. The Leisure Club has only recently been completely refurbished and our Spa treatment area is a wonderful addition to the hotel., it is very rewrading to see our guests fully enjoying these facilities

“The worst "relaxing break" ever - Hotel OK. Staff Bad.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

I have an ongoing complaint with the hotel via the holiday organisers, so I will be as informative as possible. I wish I could upload videos not pictures. That would tell you everything.
We booked this via a holiday company as a 3 day walking break over 3 nights including a New Years Eve gala dinner. All of this went well. OK food. Good atmosphere, but thats not really the hotel, thats our friends.
We walked on new years eve then found there is no facility apart from your room to wash and dry muddy boots or to dry wet clothes.
Food and drink are OK but the staff hardly speak any English and mutter and to eachother in front of guests in what i think is an Eastern European language.
The packed lunch was awful. Stale hard bread, but then when you are 10 miles from the hotel up a hill, what are you going to do.
The OUTRAGEOUS aspect was when our new years eve function finished at we all went off to our rooms at approx 00.30 having been told the function ended at 1am.
At 3.30am it was still going... and I mean LOUD. Offensively loud. My wife and I went to investigate thinking we could end up being the party poopers and ended up arguing with the duty manager as we were being kept awake by a STAFF PARTY that was planned until 4.30am.
I wouldnt have minded as much if this was a party for guests and I am just the moaner who wants to sleep, but there was not one of the 200+ party guests there. I am incenced that I was kept awake in a hotel by the staff having their party.
I am in the middle of my formal complaint but with video evidence of the "staff party" and where the duty manager physically tried to stop me recording it, I guess I am safe from any libel or slander actions.
The upshot was we were so tired that we couldnt walk the next day as planned and when we got blanked by staff at breakfast, we ended up moving to another hotel that we had to pay for.
Many other guests didnt complain at the time as they thought it was the guests party.
I would never go back to this hotel.

I sincerely apologise for your disturbed night on New Years Eve, it is the case that with a full programme of entertainment live music and indoor fierworks a piper at midnight and a disco until late the celebrations can go on until the early hours, it is New Years Eve after all.
Many guests some of whom are rgeular attendees and have rebooked for 2012 were enjoying the evening and invited staff to join the party. If we were aware that you intended to retire relatively early we would have allocated you a room away from the music however I understand you selected your room on a previous visit to the hotel.
I apologise if you felt blanked by the staff this I can assure you would not be the case. As you can see from previous reviews we get many compliments regarding the helpfullness and friendliness of the staff, I can only assume with over 100 guests for breakfast they were simply rather busy.
I am disappointed you do not intend to return to our hotel however I trust you will accept our generous offer of a refund for your disturbed night and the walk you missed along with reimbursement for your nights stay in Bath, should you reconsider we will be only too pleased to welcome you back
